It's the position taken by the earliest church leaders - including Peter, James and the other Jewish apostles - at the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15. They explicitly ruled that Gentile Christians do not need to keep the full Mosaic law or be circumcised. So even if you prefer the 'historical Jewish Jesus' view, the New Testament itself shows his earliest Jewish followers moving away from requiring the old ritual laws for non-Jews once they believed he had fulfilled the Law and the Prophets.
