This idea is so insanely stupid that I hope the US does it. The invasion of Iraq required 400k ground troops, and that was invading flat terrain, against an army with inferior equipment. Unlike Iraq 2003, this invasion wouldn’t even have a friendly country to invade from like Kuwait. It would require a Gallipoli-style landing on a beach against an enemy that has the advantage of terrain and we know how that went. Without a friendly neighbouring country, the Iranians would simply destroy the landing ships with their missiles. Even if the US deployed their entire naval fleet, they could only carry 30,000 troops. Aim for the engines and these ships stop moving, the Iranian then send their lifeboats, and take thousands of American POWs.
