As part of our mid-season update planned for April 14, we've got some notable changes and updates on the way. But by popular demand we wanted to share just a few early - specifically, a preview of some of the Recon changes that are incoming.
⭕ Echo Pulse: This will now distinguish between the Runner and UESC targets that are pinged. We're also reducing its visibility to enemies, making it a bit tougher for enemy Runners to gauge if they're in range. Notably, if you're a Runner who cleverly used their Signal Jammer before Echo Pulse hit you, you'll also show up as UESC. Use this power wisely.
🕷️ Tracker Drone: Your friendly neighborhood Tracker Drone is about to get a bit more aggressive. With 1.0.6 we're improving its tracking strength and allowing it to find a new target to track if it cannot reach its current target. Runner beware.
That's just a taste of what's to come. Keep some tick milk on ice, we'll share the full patch notes closer to 1.0.6's release date.

@caidfm @BaggsDaddy @KryDotExe No conversation is ever stupid. I enjoy talking to people and hearing different perspectives. That said, on Twitter it often feels like I’m dealing with angry people with no empathy or critical thinking.
Echo chambers are horrible, and I try to avoid falling into any.

@A_PrincessMarie @BaggsDaddy @KryDotExe as soon as you remember that it was one dev who left a stolen decal pack in the hundreds of files before quitting the studio, you realize how stupid this conversation even is. 1 understandable oversight vs the blatant choice to use ai? you tell me what’s worse
English

@caidfm @BaggsDaddy @KryDotExe Genuinely curious, which is worse.
Using ai that was trained on stolen art?
Actually stealing the art yourself?
We've seen both recently, Crimson Desert and Marathon respectively. Both studios only fixing it after being caught.
English

@BaggsDaddy @KryDotExe being this confidently retarded must be so blissful
English

@KryDotExe Bungie has stolen art 6 times lmao
"yeah but they paid that one artist after being caught that one time"
LMAAAOOOOOOOOO supporting art theft

I'm struggling to see where "Ranked" fits into Marathon. In reality, it's meant to be a mechanism to funnel the games top performing players into an isolated playlist so the remaining population can go about their time in the traditional zones. The problem is ranked does not flow well with the existing design of the maps. In the base maps, players are completing contracts, visiting POIs for specific salvages and tackling events like lockdowns and wardens. In ranked, no one cares about that because giving up your position to complete something like an anomalous sample is way too risky. This creates a stagnated stalemate where everyone wants to play passive until a safe, third party option becomes available. However, the philosophy of pitting together the top players into an "end game" competition is the right call. If I were a designer at Bungie, this is where I would break out of the extraction mold and put together some other type of competitive mode. This could be the "Trials of Osiris" of Marathon, a completely new way to play the game that matches Bungie's history of providing many avenues of excitement. CC: @asalisbury

@AlpenDitrix @CoolGuyGames it’s for sure an issue on marsh. there’s so many teams that the route for every spawn is predetermined. there’s a set “correct” thing to do to guarantee an advantaged fight in the first 30 seconds
English

@CoolGuyGames There's much more spawn points than players (even less on case of crews). It's a guessing game anyway.
Non issue.

@Jambi_Pot @RedWingDiehards unreal that I have to reiterate this… yzerman isn’t bad, his choice of pro scouts are. his biggest failure was firing glenn merkosky and replacing him with his brother chris
English

This question bothers me because it reveals how hockey fan culture still worships names over systems.
The “who replaces Yzerman” framing assumes the Wings are one genius away from being good. They’re not. And frankly, that thinking is exactly why bad front offices around pro sports stay bad.
Let me be direct: Steve Yzerman is excellent. His track record (Tampa, Detroit drafting) is real. But the idea that he is irreplaceable because of who he was as a player is a different argument, and it’s the one nobody wants to examine.
Here’s what actually matters when a GM leaves or gets fired:
The structure underneath him:
Who are the scouts? What’s the development philosophy? What’s the scouting database look like? What relationships exist with agents, coaches, and amateur programs? That infrastructure doesn’t disappear when one person walks out. If it does, that’s actually a front office failure, not proof the GM was a god.
The pipeline of qualified candidates:
There are people who have been grinding in pro scouting, amateur scouting, player development, and hockey ops for 10-20 years who will never get a GM interview because they don’t have a Cup ring or a retired jersey. That’s not meritocracy. That’s brand worship. The NHL has a long history of hiring famous names who flame out and quietly passing over the people doing the actual work.
Process over personality:
The best organizations (in hockey or any sport) are built so that when leadership changes, the process remains stable. The ones that crater after one executive leaves weren’t actually well-built. They were dependent. There’s a difference.
Now apply that to Detroit. If the answer to “who replaces Yzerman” genuinely stumps the fanbase, the more honest question is: why hasn’t Yzerman built a front office deep enough that the answer is obvious? That’s on him as much as anyone.
I’m not rooting against Yzerman. I want the Wings to win. But the reverence fans have for the name has always made honest evaluation harder in Detroit and it’s a pattern worth breaking.
The best thing Detroit fans can do is demand organizational excellence, not clap for GM sainthood. Whether that’s from Yzerman himself or a potential successor at some point in the future. #LGRW

Say we fire Steve Yzerman tomorrow, who would you all want to replace him?
