@VivianneWolf @yegwave It’s not reasonable to have wage decrease year after year due to inflation and devalued money/ buying power. Teachers would need a 28% increase to just break even. Alberta deserves a better education system.

When it comes to politics it’s never what they tell you it’s about. This isn’t about class size or wages, or even the students. This whole situation has been predetermined by both sides and they’re just dragging us through the motions. Both the ATA and the gov’t knew there would be a strike, they knew they would be $2 billion apart, they knew that neither side would budge materially closer, and they knew it would be three weeks with a legislated back-to-work. Politically, this scheme benefits the ATA and the NDP. I think the actual teachers have genuine concerns, but this is ultimately a power play between the ATA bosses/NDP and the UCP. One side wants power, and the other side wants to retain power. Everyone else are just pawns with varying degrees of awareness that they’re being used as chess pieces in a big game.

@kris_sims More of the same from a cheap ass government ploy. Why negotiate from weakness? How about the government offers more than 3000 teachers. No increase of wages just more teachers and a cap on class size. That would end this strike. Teachers won’t go back to work for less. WTR soon

We want the same things as Alberta teachers and parents: More classrooms. More teachers. More pay for teachers. And more educational assistants. This strike has gone on too long and we are extremely concerned about the impact it is having on students. The ATA needs to do what is right for its members, and for all Alberta students.
