@Berger_BYTES I don’t know Howard. In today’s NHL that looks like a fine.

Apr. 1, 1965. #Montreal Forum. Game 1 of the #StanleyCup semifinals: #Leafs vs. #Canadiens. The Big M, today, would be suspended 15 games for the head-shot on #Habs defenseman Terry Harper. The scene was called by Danny Gallivan. The Leafs entered the playoffs with three consecutive #NHL championships under Punch Imlach. But, Montreal would end the streak and win four of the next five. #LeafsForever #CBC

@joansview @mtlgazette You may be right but I think the opposite. This law was passed to give the appearance of stopping the Jew hating law breaking on our streets. That takes the focus off of the criminal law. If they wouldn’t enforce the law before why would they now?
English

@mtlgazette Public prayers have not been banned but now require a municipal permit. I'm sure the annual way of the cross will be allowed a permit whereas spontaneous prayers in the street intended to block traffic and access to businesses and residences will not.
English

“I think it would be a shame if (this) were to end, because we live in a free society, so I feel like we should be able to."
A day after Quebec passed its expanded secularism law banning collective public prayer, hundreds of people walked silently through the streets of Montreal to honour Jesus’s last day on earth, as they do every Good Friday in a procession known as the Way of the Cross.

@davidgmac9 @farmingandJesus I'm not trying to lift my own. But calling out the idolatry of another is what I'm supposed to do.

@The_Catechumen @ZeldaAGabriel No. We are required to go to Mass. Many people disagree with what the Church teaches because they do not understand. Moreover, we are all sinners. Who of us follows a Catholic lifestyle?
English

If you don’t believe what the Church teaches, don’t go to mass, and don’t live a Catholic lifestyle, you aren’t Catholic.
There has been a trend on Twitter recently of comparing Catholic vs. Protestant statistics on moral issues, doctrinal unity, spiritual practices/reading, church attendance, etc. Which are used to denigrate the Catholic faith as such. Typically, it’s a comparison between evangelical Christians (which necessarily excludes mainline Protestants who have generally gone secular/liberal) and anyone who claims the name “Catholic.”
Keep in mind that a large portion of American Catholics polled for these kinds of things 1. Don’t attend mass weekly 2. Don’t follow the teachings of the Church on faith or moral issues and 3. Aren’t living a Catholic lifestyle. This obviously results in a huge statistical shift, and that’s why I don’t really care to run to these reports. They poll people who claim to be Catholic but really aren’t.
English

@ADofCLE @farmingandJesus It’s counterproductive to criticize one group in order to elevate our own. In both of our traditions we have people acting in a manner that makes us wince. It would be intellectually dishonest to suggest snake charmers are reflective of Protestants theology
English

@davidgmac9 @farmingandJesus God wants our worship and friendship, and to actually spread his word. A large gathering to praise the Lord for his sacrifice, his work, and for breathing life into us is what we should be doing. Not carrying a statue that's not even Jesus.
English

People talk about the Habs being the youngest team in the league and lacking experience. In two years they might still be the youngest team. #gohabsgo
English

@farmingandJesus Not everything has to use words. I have no doubt that you bring people closer to God based on how you live your life even if you don’t say a thing.
English

@davidgmac9 What is the message of Jesus they are spreading? They aren’t preaching the gospel
English

@StuCowan1 I love this line, “he makes it feel like you’re watching the game with a buddy who played in the NHL”. It so accurately reflects why @mike_p_johnson is so good and is so well liked.

Elie Wiesel, Auschwitz survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has died at the age of 87. His book "Night," is about his experience with his father in Nazi concentration camps at the height of the Holocaust. In his later Nobel Prize acceptance speech he said, "No one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged from the kingdom of night."

@VMSwiderski @davidgmac9 I’m also a boomer from a devout Italian Catholic family. I attended Catholic schools for all of my life. I started reading the Bible as a child and have always read it. It’s nonsense to say that the Catholic Church forbids it. There would be no Bible without the Church.
English

@LadyKellDiva @VMSwiderski Riley Anna, I am not a young man. I was taught at a young age to read the Bible. We believe the same things regarding the Bible being the inspired Word of God. People would be surprised at how much of the Mass is Biblical. We should do it more though.
English

@davidgmac9 @VMSwiderski How do you not know that RC was like this in that era and many people are STILL told to not read Bibles? I'm in the Rust Belt and I hear it from elder millennial and Gen X Catholics quite a bit.
English

I was born and raised in an Italian/American/Catholic family. Devout. Pre-Vatican II. Wanted to become a nun.
Our Catholic school only went to 8th grade, so I had to go to public school after that.
Back then you could post fliers for Bible studies at school without being sent to a reeducation camp. A new friend who knew I was “religious” pointed to a poster and said, “you might like that. You should go.” (InterVarsity Christian Fellowship). So I did.
What I saw were kids talking about Jesus like he was alive, praying to God like He was listening. I used to kneel before the monstrance wondering how they could fit Jesus inside that little circle. Jesus was always dead, hanging on that crucifix.
At the same time my father was dying of cancer. Back then there were no treatments. There was no hospice. I was 15 years old giving my dad shots of morphine and helping him use a plastic urinal and a bedpan.
I had to know:
What happens to us when we die? Is there a heaven and a hell? How do I get to heaven?
At the same time I was going to catechism classes and began asking questions. Eventually the priest came to the house and had a talk with my parents. I was forbidden to go to Bible study. I was forbidden to read the Bible. I was forbidden to associate with my new friends.
Because I knew that one of the Ten Commandments was to honor your father and mother, I obeyed.
Then when my father died and I turned 18, I came forward during an evangelistic concert in late 1979. I freely and publicly professed faith in Jesus Christ — the faith that had been brewing all along. God saved me. I was born again. I was rejected by my family.
I will never go back.

Hey believer, What made you become a Christian? Share your testimony. 🤍✝️ It might bless someone.
English

@farmingandJesus I think they do the public spectacle in order to spread the message of Jesus.
English

@davidgmac9 No one said to forget it. We said to stop with the public spectacle
English

@brian_matthews @farmingandJesus I agree with your point that the suffering these actors are having is not comparable. I don't actually know what the purpose is.
English

@davidgmac9 @farmingandJesus We need to consider His pain for us, not your self inflicted, pointless show "suffering" that isn't even worthy to be called pain compared to His.
You have your reward.
English

@JeanPierre33733 @BishopBambera your criticism of me is that i am concerned about the hate crimes in Canada. That means you see your position as intrinsically linked to Jew hate. That is, if one doesn't hate Jews one doesn't agree with you.
English

@davidgmac9 @BishopBambera Three times! Don’t possess the intellect to not conflate criticism of a country with Jew hate? What a clown you are evangelical,
English

@JeanPierre33733 @BishopBambera Jean Pierre, do you ever wonder how your Jew hate impacts your faith? How does one hate Jews and love Jesus?
English

@davidgmac9 @BishopBambera Oh look! You got to say it again evangelical, what a fake Christian you are letting Christian’s and their places of worship being destroyed, even Leo condemned this, you stand against the Pope, that makes you a heretic
English

@JeanPierre33733 @BishopBambera You were busted for your Jew hate. You should own it. Then start preparing how you are going to explain it to our creator.
English

@davidgmac9 @BishopBambera Yet I knew what your objective was from our initial contact, and now I’ve tolerated your ignorant and unchristian virtue signaling, evangelical not a Catholic
