#AndroidDev folks, I have two single module Android apps, both commercial software and similar size in terms of LOC. Both have Java and Kotlin source code, but one takes 3-4x time to build compared to the other. What could be the reasons?

@donnfelker @arkann1985 I feel the reason may not be that the author wants to make money here but that articles that are not monetized, don’t get recommended as much within Medium’s ecosystem so your reads/views go down. Just like on Youtube monetised videos get boosted by the algorithm. 💭

@arkann1985 Yeah i believe this is opt in. Which really doesn’t make sense. You make pennies. The exposure and recognition you get for making your article easily shareable far outweighs the nominal amount of income it would generate.

Defining job description for Engineering, the technical aspects and expectation to be hands on shouldn't change between senior engineer vs junior engineer, the only thing change is team management and exposure to problems. I believe every engineer should be hands on.

@PreusslerBerlin That many gets painful sometimes, if not managed properly. When you hit some crazy scale, small tweaks can and will impact the bottom line of the business. In order to do that, and not disrupt the status quo, you need to feature flag it. I know @droidchef has some thoughts. :)

Feature flag frameworks can help you quickly adapt to broken features, changing market conditions and more. They also help you identify (with analytics) if a new feature/improvement/etc improves conversions. @droidchef and I have had a lot of great conversations on this.
