Disgusting headline. There is NOTHING controversial about an Alberta Minister taking an Alberta flag to summit a peak to raise money for in memory of his late sister to combat domestic violence. How about instead of attacking a patriot, we raise awareness for the cause... to donate visit: melaniesascent.ca

Alberta’s education minister’s provincial flag-hoisting during an overseas tribute to his sister is colliding with the simmering sovereignty debate as questions mount over where UCP caucus members stand on the issue. calgary.citynews.ca/2026/02/16/alb…

Boomerlibs pretending that the Dutch are as different from Anglos as Bomalians, and because we assimilated a few Dutch without a hiccup, therefore we must let in infinite Bomalians, and any friction you notice as a result is in your racist imagination.

@marissenmark Actually, this is how literally everyone understood nationality prior to the cultural revolution of the 60s and 70s. Our immigration policy must take into account cultural continuity and demographic security. This isn't hateful, it's common sense.

So… @jkenney is premier. ATCO illegally overcharges tens of thousands of Albertans. ATCO is fined, senior executives are sacked, Nancy Southern isn’t held accountable, ATCO isn’t forced to refund all of the Albertans Nancy’s company ripped off. Kenney is made Director of ATCO. Welcome to Jason Kenney’s Alberta. Have you dumped ATCO as your service provider yet?! #AlbertaIndependence

BC Government projects a record-breaking $13.3 billion deficit. Announces tax hikes across the board, raising the first income tax bracket, and FREEZING tax bracket indexation until 2030. Tax brackets will NOT rise with inflation.

And that's really the heart of the matter. When I was a kid in the 80s, there was some good public programming about the War of 1812. Considering that I grew up on the Niagara Peninsula (where most of the battles took place), I really got into it...but I couldn't connect...because my ancestors were not there. In the 90s, the CBC put significant emphasis on highlighting the Canadian contributions at Vimy Ridge in WW1 and Dieppe in WW2, and rightly so. But once again, I could not connect to either because my ancestors where fighting on the other side. Heritage matters.

It's not actually weird or amusing. American history is full of articulate, accomplished characters that struggled with the pull of loyalist sentiments as Englishmen while knowing in their hearts that the cause of Independence and self rule against authoritarian power was righteous.
Rupa Subramanya@rupasubramanya

Nothing more amusing than seeing Alberta separatists who hate Canada weigh in on Canadian affairs. They can't wait to be an independent country and possibly join the U.S., and are quite certain they'll get their way, yet they waste their time on Canadian issues. Weird.

The separatists are a noisy bunch but the vast majority of Albertans are fiercely patriotic Canadians - as are all Alberta MPs. Liberal, Conservative, NDP, other. We disagree about how to govern this country, not its inherent value or how lucky we are to be Canadian.
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

Pierre Poilievre on Alberta separatism: "We are entirely a federalist caucus. I have not had a single MP express that view. And as for myself, I'm a very proud federalist, born and bred Albertan, and we will be fighting for a united Canada."
