1st zk circuit exploit, and it's from, checks notes, not running the setup.
Note, it's not the 1st zk exploit. That was a coin that took my grad student code off GitHub, complete with readme that says don't use in production, it's buggy, and got it exploited in production.

The first two known exploits against live ZK circuits just happened, and they weren't subtle underconstrained bugs. They were Groth16 verifiers deployed without completing the trusted setup ceremony. One was white-hat rescued for ~$1.5M, the other drained for 5 ETH. 🧵

I think it's legitimate (I just talked about that) and fair (I just called it an open process) and while I think there are flaws (I just listed many) I don't think these raise doubts that the vote showed coinholders are very opposed to ZSAs.
How much more would you like me to live within your framing and terms of discussion?

I've been noticing a conflict brewing between the old guard "progressives" and the new guard "ossificationists" in Zcash.
I wrote some thoughts on governance, as a 10-year veteran of crypto DAOs. Hope it makes some sense.

@ebfull A human communication layer is a benefit to the protocol. Let’s find a civil place to do it. I was warned when I first posted that some in the community could be “harsh,” but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Maybe lessons were learned. X is harsher.

Why would coinholders engage on the community forums?
There were a lot of us who for many years hated going to that forum, and thought there was a whole community of Zcashers deliberately avoiding it.
Turns out a lot of those voiceless people were paying our salaries.
