@Tabudim Provoking people in their own country when you ran away from hardship in yours is not wise. We have always lived peacefully with foreigners long before democracy. There is this new lot who want to impose themselves in our country who are a problem.

@matigary I hope that black South Africans never get to see a day when they would leave their country and forcefully demand to get citizenship of any other country. It's tragic, I cannot even imagine what it feels like to be exiled by your own kind.

@SongezoZibi The accuracy of numbers allow people ro craft real solutions to problems. 'You cannot control what you cannot measure', I wonder if that is well understood by your critics.

Correcting a number isn’t to deny a problem. The public is entitled to accurate information so it can make informed political and other choices. It doesn’t help to either understate or overstate numbers. But then again I accept I’m probably old fashioned in that view.
Ntsaphokazi Madyibi@NtsaphoMadyibi

@SongezoZibi We keep correcting numbers, but not changing outcomes. The real question isn’t just accuracy, it’s why we still have underutilised graduates and millions excluded from the economy. The question is “how do we design an economy that absorbs people at scale?” @NoncebaMhlauli

Elite Africans with big English are crashing out over this post but the comments under it from across Africa are proving strong support for Trump. Get out of your filter bubbles and speak to regular people outside your privileged circles
Larry Madowo@LarryMadowo

Many Africans love President Trump's conservative values and straight talk. I said that on CNN and some accused me of lying. Africa is not a monolith, of course, but I travel around it full time and I meet more Trump fans than haters. Where do you stand?

@Abramjee So what did the Minister say? I read the post thrice. I'm still in the dark. Besides, separation of powers. Why is the executive commenting and explaining something that falls within the SAPS realm, particularly the DPCI? The National Commissioner yes, but why DoJ & CD?

Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has addressed growing public concern over why alleged Tembisa Hospital looter Hangwani Morgan Maumela has not yet been formally charged, despite being repeatedly implicated in investigations. Maumela first came into the spotlight following a detailed probe by the Special Investigating Unit into irregular contracts at Tembisa Hospital, and his name resurfaced again during proceedings at the Madlala Commission last month. According to the SIU’s findings, three coordinated syndicates were responsible for the large-scale looting of more than R2 billion from the hospital through fraudulent procurement processes. One of these, known as the Maumela syndicate, has been directly linked to Maumela. The investigation revealed widespread irregularities after analysing over 2,200 procurement contracts, pointing to systemic maladministration and corruption within the hospital’s supply chain systems. The SIU’s deeper focus on the Maumela-linked network uncovered that 1,728 procurement contracts, valued at approximately R816 million, were tied to this syndicate alone. Investigators also identified at least 41 service providers connected to Maumela, suggesting an extensive and coordinated web of companies used to benefit from irregular tenders. Further findings showed that three companies awarded contracts worth more than R13.5 million within this network were linked to Vusimuzi Matlala, indicating overlapping relationships between individuals and entities involved in the alleged scheme. Despite the scale of the alleged corruption and the detailed findings presented by the SIU, no criminal charges have yet been brought against Maumela. Kubayi’s explanation points to ongoing legal and investigative processes, implying that authorities may still be building a case that can stand up in court. The situation highlights ongoing frustrations around accountability and delays in prosecuting high-profile corruption cases, especially when significant public funds and critical healthcare services are affected.

@elonmusk is currently worth roughly twice the entire GDP of South Africa… and you clowns still think you’re doing him a favour by refusing to license Starlink unless he plays the BEE bribe game. Bro doesn’t need our “business.” He doesn’t need our racist gatekeeping either. At this point we’re just loudly announcing to the world that we’d rather stay in the dark ages than let a South African-born innovator succeed without kissing the ring. Truly elite-level self-own. Keep it up, champions. The rest of the planet is taking notes. 🇿🇦🤡

Elon Musk@elonmusk·
South Africa won’t allow Starlink to be licensed, even though I was BORN THERE, simply because I am not Black! We were offered many times the opportunity to bribe our way to a license by pretending that a Black guy runs Starlink SA, but I have refused to do so on principle. Racism should not be rewarded no matter to which race it is applied. Shame on the racist politicians in South Africa. They should be shown no respect whatsoever anywhere in the world and shunned for being unashamedly RACISTS!
DogeDesigner@cb_doge

Why Elon Musk is RIGHT to fight South Africa’s racist rules blocking Starlink? Imagine this: Long ago, South Africa had very unfair laws called apartheid. They treated Black people badly and kept them from good jobs and money. When those bad laws ended, the country made new rules (called B-BBEE) to help Black people get a fair share of business. The idea was good – like a big helping hand. But now? For companies like Starlink to sell fast internet, they MUST give away 30% of their business to Black partners. Just because of skin color. Elon Musk was born in South Africa. He left as a teen to chase big dreams. Today, his company SpaceX wants to bring Starlink – super fast satellite internet – to South Africa. But the rules say no unless they give up part of the company. Elon said it right: “Starlink is not allowed because I’m not Black.” SpaceX promised to spend about $30 million (that’s 500 million rand!) to give FREE high-speed internet to 5,000 rural schools. That helps over 2.4 MILLION kids every year learn better, get jobs later, and have a brighter future. Real help for the people who need it most! Starlink already works in about 24 other African countries. Villages there now have internet for school, doctors, and business. South Africa’s villages are missing out because of these racist rules. Elon isn’t asking for special favors. He just wants fair play so Starlink can connect everyone fast. Internet = education, jobs, hope. Why hold back millions of kids over rules that pick by race and color?

You are mistaking Travel & Trade with long term migration… that’s WRONG… a person travelling to South Africa for a month may not need a Visa but to settle in South Africa they will need a Visa… A borderless Africa is about TRAVEL & TRADE, people should travel & trade easily, that will benefit the continent massively. Each country can still have immigration laws restricting who stays long term. It’s actually the case in SADC (excluding DRC). SADC is already borderless to SADC citizens by that definition , that catastrophe you are talking about hasn’t happened… SADC citizens don’t need Visas to travel to SADC countries, but they can still be considered illegal if they settle long term without resident visas …. Wode Maya is talking about the fact that some Africans still demand Visas for travellers & business. That’s the issue here…

A borderless Africa sounds powerful—but without strong systems, it’s a recipe for instability. It would make it easier for armed groups to move freely, drive mass & chaotic migration towards stronger economies, overwhelm jobs, housing & healthcare & accelerate brain drain from smaller states. With huge economic gaps & other obvious vulnerabilities, the result wouldn’t be unity—it would be disorder. Integration must be earned, built & managed—not rushed.

You left Nigeria and moved to South Africa despite widely reported hostilities against Nigerians. You ignored the warnings, disregarded the news, and then gathered with fellow Igbos to install a supposed king while living as immigrants? I sincerely don’t know what is wrong with us as a people, but it’s time we face established realities that Nigerians are not particularly popular in many parts of Africa. Talk less of xenophobic South Africa. We need to start accepting this reality, especially when our approach can sometimes come across as loud or domineering. There is a clear need for cultural intelligence, awareness, and humility when living as guests in other people’s countries. Na everything them go spell for us? South Africa has shown, time and again, that it can be a hostile environment for Nigerians. That is a reality we cannot keep pretending doesn’t exist. Why dare them?
