Senator, may I ask what sources you are using for these numbers? To be clear, the Islamic Republic in Iran is being targeted by Israel and the U.S., not civilians. Iranians have repeatedly called for help when the regime massacred more than 40,000 people and jailed thousands more. In many cases, people were shot in the head and chest including in the hospitals. Most of the casualties being referenced are IRGC and Basij forces the same groups responsible for decades of killing and violence. I would appreciate clarity on the sources being used, as this framing does not reflect reality on the ground. Sincerely, Iranian American

Today, as part of Economic Fury, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned an oil smuggling network run by Iranian shipping magnate Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of now-deceased senior Iranian security official Ali Shamkhani. OFAC today also sanctioned targets related to a complex Hizballah gold scheme that ultimately benefits Iran’s military. home.treasury.gov/news/press-rel…

@USTreasury @SecScottBessent Mr. Secretary, much of the Shamkhani network’s operations are reportedly based in the United Arab Emirates, a country that has itself been targeted by IRGC missiles. Why hasn’t the UAE moved to shut down these networks?

Treasury is moving aggressively with Economic Fury by targeting regime elites like the Shamkhani family that attempt to profit at the expense of the Iranian people. Under @POTUS’ leadership, Treasury will continue to cut off Iran’s illicit smuggling and terror proxy networks. Financial institutions should be on notice that Treasury will leverage all tools and authorities, including secondary sanctions, against those that continue to support Tehran’s terrorist activities.

🔹 We had a productive meeting with @RepAdams’s team and urged working with the Administration to ensure immediate internet access for the people of Iran amid the longest nationwide blackout, while supporting their demand for total regime change, not reform, toward a secular democracy with a transitional government led by Prince Reza Pahlavi. The Iran Prosperity Project (IPP) is the economic roadmap to rebuild Iran after the collapse of the regime. We also emphasized freeing political prisoners, stopping executions, and ensuring accountability at VOA Persian over censorship.

I think VP may be misreading the situation a little bit. Ghalibaf has definitely become more prominent since June of last year. However, he is not the one running the country. The country’s top decision-makers remain Mojtaba Khamenei and the IRGC which is more represented by Ahmad Vahidi than by Ghalibaf.
