So Justice Kagan is reported in Molly Hemingway's new book on Justice Alito as having urged liberal members of the Court to slow-walk their dissents in the Dobbs case for months after Justice Alito had finished his majority decision, presumably with the "hope" that the composition of the Court would change and the 5-4 outcome striking down Roe would turn into a 4-4 deadlock that left the lower court's decision in place - affirming Roe. NOW, it is clear that it was Justice Kagan -- and not Justices Jackson and Sotomayor -- who has held up her dissent in the Louisiana redistricting case, as she has written the only dissent -- with the whispered-about motivation being to push the decision back far enough into the calendar back such that some states don't have time to engage in redistricting before the Nov. elections -- redistricting that might eliminate minority-majority districts and cost Democrats seats. If both these two anecdotal accounts about Kagan gain traction, it will forever stain her legacy on SCOTUS.

Take a deep breath. Really deep. Fill your lungs. Now exhale. Hold your breath until your lungs are reedy to explode. Then repeat. Now imagine that your lungs get 5% smaller each time you do this. Now imagine you are standing in a stadium with 50,000 people watching you slowly die. You are getting tired but refuse to succumb. Refuse to even kneel. That’s how it feels to be a supporter of shipbuilding during this administration. The thrill and excitement of walking into the stadium for the first time and your issue taking center stage. Fits of joy at each major milestone. Then long periods of nothing. You stand on the pitches mound waiting for the team to tun out from the dugout. You wait for the umpire to walk out with the game ball. Waiting for the game to start. It never happens. Trump has done more for American shipbuilding than any President since Nixon. He uncovered the grounds. He turned on the lights. He set up the scoreboard. He paid the salaries. And he filled the stadium with fans eager to cheers. The Maritime Executive Order The White House Maritime Action Plan The reintroduction of the SHIPs for America Act Hegseth’s Arsenal of Freedom Tour New energy at MARAD in DOT Navy acquisition reform OMB, Labor, Treasury, Energy and Commerce ready to pitch in All the pieces of the puzzle are on the table ready to be assembled. And yet nothing is getting built. The problem is shipbuilding requires a monumental all of government approach. It’s not a Mavy problem or a Merchant Marine problem or a USCG problem or a Steel, or UN, or alliances or whatever It’s a truly all of government problem. All the players are ready but we have no manager calling a huddle and walking everyone out to the field. The outgoing secretary of the Navy John Phelan did a lot of good, but he never called that huddle. Will Hung Cao? He has the enthusiasm and passion and ability to lead the team. Problem is he has an enormous Navy to run. Hung Cao needs a manager, a pitching coach, a batting coach… a small cadre of guys who really understand shipbuilding. Not just Naval shipbuilding but the entire landscape of commercial, finance, trades, union, allies best practices, and all the levers of government available. Now is the time. It shouldn’t have to be the duty of @SECNAV to hold this much water but every other department tasked (except OMB) has stood their and watched as opportunity after opportunity sailed by. There is still enough excitement for shipbuilding to start the game but the pitcher is quickly running out of breaths. The game needs to start asap and @HungCao_VA has the last chance before the midterms to start the show.

@e_joseph_murphy Both sides raised armies with recruitment. Can you show us an ad in any mainstream northern newspaper soliciting recruits for the purpose of ending slavery?

I don't really have a dog in this fight but I prefer grain finished over grass finished because of the lack of gaminess and taste consistency. Marketing "grass finished" is working. Grass finished is cheaper. The cattle are harvested off the pasture. When I was a kid, sale barns were overwhelmed in the fall and in late winter, the meat at the grocer was usually frozen. Overwintering costs drove the fall market. I haven't been involved with raising corn or cattle for almost 60 years but I enjoyed both.

“…that all men are free & equal. That is the doctrine of the abolitionists, but not the law of the United States… Refuse that, & then you present us, as you must, with war. We accept…we will trust to the sword and the God of battles for security, tranquility, & peace.” 2/4

@CovenantReform2 @BGibbus You, sir are the ignoramus. Nobody in 1860 was fighting for or against slavery. This is common knowledge. Anyone who says otherwise is spewing 21st century communist propaganda. YOU are the immoral communist for lying about patriotic Americans and American history. Shame on you!

@Lorelei1861 Colonel Gantt defected at Vicksburg after he was refused a battlefield command due to his alcoholism and womanizing. He toured the north trying to bolster support for the Federals. This speech happened in 1864.

EJ is a very dumb animal. The South did not secede to "preserve" slavery from a threat of federal abolition, because, as the 1860 Republican Platformand the Corwin Amendment prove, no such threat existed. Instead, the primary documents show the South seceded to uphold the Constitutional compact and to protest the North’s unconstitutional violations of existing law.
EJ@e_joseph_murphy

“The conflict was centered on the illegal breach of the Constitutional compact rather than a simple fear of losing property.” Saying that the conflict was constitutional & not related to slavery is wild, especially when then citing the slavery centered constitutional provisions.
