@getrootarded I choose to think Microsoft and Sony are paying good money to sink this in any way they can, bots, posters etc. For obvious reasons. Or, I'm just being silly.

@SilvaniKillian Because the support requirements become much more complicated, when you're just supporting a small set of devices you know exactly the configurations they will exist in. When dealing with general purpose SteamOS you've now got to deal with setups that shouldn't even exist.

The Steam Machine, at $1049, is a bit too expensive to take on the PS5 or the Xbox Series X. But even at that seemingly high price, it’s still one of the cheapest and almost certainly the easiest way to get into PC gaming right now. Our review: bit.ly/4uNi025 #IGNSummerOfGaming

Valve has announced the pricing for the new Steam Machine. >512GB model: $1,049 >2TB model: $1,349 Valve says the hardware is being sold close to cost rather than at a loss like traditional consoles. Reservations are now open, with the Steam Machine set to launch on June 29.

Keir has given huge service to our country and I want to thank him for his leadership and dedication during such a challenging period. His decision marks the beginning of a transition and it is important that this process is conducted in an orderly and responsible way. I will put myself forward as part of this process. The country expects stability, seriousness and a continued focus on the issues that matter most and that is what it will get. As we move forward, our priority must be to work together to get the country back to where we all want it to be. People want to see progress on economic growth, cost of living, public services, housing and opportunities for the next generation. Political change should never distract from the responsibility to improve people's lives. The Labour movement has always been at its strongest when it looks forward with confidence and purpose. This is what we will do from here and we will make sure this transition is a positive process of renewal for our party and our country.

At the G7, the CEOs of the big AI companies sat at the table like heads of state, alongside presidents and prime ministers. This is the nightmare scene. Governments need to have a response to the state-like power of these companies, whether it’s by taking ownership shares, breaking them up into smaller entities, or imposing a regulatory structure that controls their power over citizens.

If we must have some regulation, a decent would be to require retailers to make available "child phones" that are preconfigured. It is really easy to set up parental controls but if people are too lazy, fine, let's make sure they can just buy it already set up.

@AlexBallingerMP protections of phones, instead of just buying simple phones with no browse access and so on. There are many solutions, mandatory age verifications is a bad solution to this problem, there are many better cheaper, simpler safer ones.

@AlexBallingerMP A boomer mind decision, not grounded in facts, and with little care for implications, but rather "we must save the children"". We are now forcing every citizen to verify to internet, a complex unsecurity privacy expensive as hell risk. Instead of just enabling existing privacy .

I welcome the social media ban for under-16s which was announced this morning. As a society, we must do everything we can to protect our young people, and this is a huge step towards doing that. What do you think? I'd be interested to hear your views in the comments.

Labour is listening to parents 🌹 Today’s announcement is backed by 9 in 10 parents among those who responded to the government’s survey. As a dad of two young girls, I’m proud of this government for taking action against big tech and protecting their childhoods.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.

@connor_naismith 1) Big tech is lobbying for this, they want the government to handle it so you are pleasing them. 2) You could also for you kids have enabled the existing family protections, instead of forcing the whole population to mandatory complex expensive privacy invading age verification
