I also do write less code, which is where the trade-off is with using the AI coding assistants. But the things I've worked on by hand do actually generally work. Is this not true of most developers? I'm not saying I'm special in this regard, I'm not!

No, not really. I do not spend 80% of my time bugfixing my own bugs for hand-written code. I simply write less buggy code than the AI does.

There's a lot of noise around how "Ai generates buggy software". The truth is writing the code was always 20% of the time. Testing and refining was always 80%. But now as that 20% compresses 10x, we want to compress the 80% as well... That's the mistake.

@ChShersh I had a project which did a lot of conversion between numeric and string so I needed something more performant than std::to_string etc. It was essentially a struct that created a char[] that only reserved as many bytes as numeric_limits and a string_view interface for usability

@itsacoaster Ooh, I like std::from_chars, it's one of my favourite functions in STL.
Care to share more details about what you did? I'm afraid I can't see the full picture yet just from your description.

I hope SCOTUS is watching this. It's the kind of thing that should flip votes if he had been going to win the tariff case.
