@DanielKorski I think you're giving too much credit to Trump's thought process on this. He, personally, wants the money that selling raw materials brings, and he wants to be called the ruler and conqueror of Greenland, but he has no interest in GOVERNING it. Personal guess: Puerto Rico 2.0?

The thing about Greenland - setting aside that the Greenlanders don’t want to be American - is that of course the US could take over the island with a tiny number of troops. It’s not like Denmark could militarily stop the US. But then what? Will the US then impose a MacArthur-style governor? Or would it allow the Greenland govt to carry on but curtailing its authority? What if it refused? When the Danish King travels there to argue for the Greenlanders - would the US arrest him? What happens when Denmark invokes Article 5 and it leads to the effective termination of NATO? Is even a Republic-led US Congress ok with that? What happens the first time a Greenlandic court rules against a US directive - does the US ignore the court, dissolve it, or arrest judges? If Greenlanders organise peaceful resistance or civil disobedience, are they protesters or insurgents? The work system of Greenlandic convene and society is enmeshed in Denmark’s - will the US want Greenlandic courts appeal to US courts rather than Danish courts as is the case today? Will the US send senior police officers, judges, doctors etc to Greeland? How does the US justify ruling 2.5 million km² of territory without representation? What happens when US courts are asked whether Greenlanders have constitutional rights? Who insures US companies operating in Greenland under occupation? What happens when sanctions, trade retaliation, and legal claims follow from EU states and the US and Europe enter an all out trade war? Finally what’s to stop the next non-MAGA US president from undoing a move that definitely looks like it doesn’t have any form of bipartisan consensus? Large and more costly colonial projects have been undertaken and of course the US could solve many of the administrate issues. But it’s not simple. Being able to do something, doesn’t mean it’s wise to do so. Especially when the US can get all that it wants already and the argument for a takeover are just expansionist.

@StepanRehak I LOVE how tactile it all looks! the ID line finally matured! driving operations (wipers, lights, mirrors, windows) and other cabin essentials (temp control, routing, media control) should ALWAYS be a function of muscle memory, not one of glancing, swiping and tapping. congrats!

Designed around real customer feedback. The new ID. Polo interior introduces a completely reworked cockpit architecture with intuitive operation, physical buttons, and high-quality, sustainable materials. A clear horizontal layout, improved usability, and smart software features enhance comfort — from one-pedal driving to advanced parking assistance and the next generation of Travel Assist. A special detail adds character: with a single touch, the digital cockpit switches to retro displays inspired by the first Golf. #Volkswagen #IDPolo #ALittleExtra

@ich_denkeselbst @temberaubend Sie dürfen ja, keiner halt solche Leute davon ab!

In 2018, the leadership of Mayor Manuela Carmena introduced Madrid Central: a low-emission zone restricting petrol cars from the core, including Gran Vía. There, sidewalks went from 2.5 to 4 m., and car lanes from 6 to 2. Bus lanes, raised crossings, and green spaces were added.

Gran Vía, Madrid’s central avenue, has long been the commercial heart of the city. But by the mid-2000s, it had become overwhelmed by private cars, and noise and air pollution that failed to meet EU standards; reflecting the car-centric urban planning paradigm in postwar Spain.🧵

My wife called to tell me that some friends of ours, who are cotton farmers in Oklahoma, just lost their biggest contract with a Canadian buyer. The buyer felt there was too much instability so he signed a deal with a cotton producer in Brazil. The Trump effect strikes again.

@stolendogememes @6_shadow_7 @memeticsisyphus remember the recent news how about 50% of adults in the US read on an elementary school level, and a good portion is functionally illiterate? this estimation tracks nicely with that.

Serious questions for those who think risk management is beta pussification: how important is your flight, really, if you can risk it so cavalierly? And what are you doing outside the airport that you can’t do in a lounge? You can do typical office work in both spaces. Is this primarily a “one extra hour with my family is worth missing some flights? Because that’s beautiful. That’s a whole Hallmark movie right there. But if it’s just about the concept of not “wasting time” in the airport, I’m genuinely curious. Are you all traveling bible salesmen or something?

it's pretty clear to me that living with ur parents past 18 is one of the worst things u can do for ur happiness and development as a person. everyone i know who has done or is currently doing this is clearly worse off for it. the monetary savings are not even close to worth it.
