I think anything has to be possible with a mad man calling the shots (Netanyahu), that might just be the reality. The UK will really struggle medium term with Trident if the US is punitive. The US doesn’t fare too well in Isolation against a joint Russia / China either though. Hopefully budgets and commitments are increased. The Iran stance is utter bollocks though. What's the plan, Europe? NATO has nothing. All the eggs are in the Trump basket. So what do you do when its 2028, 200k Russian troops are moved to the border of Baltic states, and Trump/US isn't going to lift a finger. What do you do?

US defence spending is 3.5%+ of GDP (with much of it benefiting Europe), while many allies historically lagged badly below 2%. Threatening to gut or exit NATO over a non-Article 5 Middle East issue risks real damage. The US in Isolation loses against a joint Russia/China as per Heritage 2026. Iran is a strawman argument, the US heavily damaged the UK by saying no to Suez and sparked the end of the British Empire and a decline that is still ongoing. They were in their right to say no, as it is a defence agreement and not an offensive pact . Everyone should pay their equal share, but the Iran argument is bollocks.
