@charlesharriso5 To protect black youth we need stop and frisk back, and three strikes law back. Everyone screamed those were racists, now we have more black youths dead as a result. Is this truly the outcome hoped for?

I struggle to understand the strategy of the prosecutor's office and the courts in Indianapolis regarding individuals arrested for violent gun crimes. My primary concern is that 70% to 80% of homicide victims and suspects are Black. As I walk the streets of Indianapolis with the Indy TenPoint Coalition, I often observe many repeat violent offenders and juveniles with firearms who seem to feel no fear of consequences. While some advocate for keeping young Black men out of the criminal justice system, this approach is ineffective if there is no accountability for their repeated violent actions. Without proper deterrents to prevent these young people from committing further violent acts, they continue down a destructive path that could ultimately lead to prison or death. The situation on the streets is not improving; I see an increasing number of juveniles and young adults, both male and female, in possession of firearms, including long guns with extended clips. They appear unafraid of consequences and exhibit a troubling lack of respect for human life. Although I recognize some efforts by the courts and the prosecutor's office aimed at steering individuals away from a life of crime, these approaches have proven ineffective for repeat violent offenders due to the lack of accountability. Over the past nine years, we have witnessed the highest levels of violent crime in Indianapolis's history. At times, it seems as though Black lives are considered expendable to support a particular political agenda. While this perspective may be contentious, I firmly believe that the actions of the prosecutor's office and the courts are not adequately addressing the disproportionate impact of violent crimes within the Black community. This issue is not about sending young Black men to prison; it is about keeping them alive and preventing them from harming others while helping them find a path to success. My wife and I have raised four children, and when we had to discipline them, it was never to harm them but rather to guide them towards making better choices in the future and becoming better people. There has to be accountability for our young people to help them make better choices and find their pathways to success in life.

Curfew is about keeping our kids safe. Over the weekend, at least 2 juveniles were taken into custody after refusing to leave a downtown business. Officers tried several times but couldn’t reach their parents. Let’s work together to keep our young people are safe & accounted for
