@JLLiedl @mckeownjonah It’s fascinating. Less than two years ago, I took over a campus chaplaincy. Last year we had about 150 active students. This year we have over 300 active students. Something in the culture is shifting.

“I go to Mass every day, and I see there are more people in the pews. I also look at the numbers as a scientist, and I see that the numbers are not yet there." @mckeownjonah on why the data on religious revival doesn't match what people are seeing--yet. ncregister.com/news/gen-z-rev…

Waiting to hear from Hale how the new nuncio pick was a calculated insult towards Trump, and this will lead to an imminent clash of civilizations between the two.

I have had the chance to work with Abp Caccia on several projects and was at his episcopal ordination by Pope Benedict. an outstanding choice for this position at this time. It’s notable that he spent years in the Mid East and UN- places that many in DC don’t seem to get!

Happily planning a theology talk on immigration for this April at Rensselaer Polytechnic, a top-tier tech research university back in my home state of New York. Just waiting to fix the date.

One thing I find interesting about canon law is: no other discipline inspires so much confident amateur commentary from otherwise hyper-credentialist academics in other fields.

@TheHappyPriest I ordered a special candle for the blessing and it doesn’t have wicks! So I couldn’t light it even if I wanted to.

If any priests have an available Mass intention, please offer the Holy Sacrifice for my friend, Sister Margaret Joseph Obrovac, who died in Boston early this morning. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this month, and her race to eternity was so speedy we are dazed.

@ianpacemain My 10th grade Western Civilization text by Kenneth Clark was a stretch for students when I taught Western Civ at a Big Ten school 20 years ago, and was completely outside the grasp of students when I taught the same course 7 years ago at a private university in New England.

Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex·
Our diplomacy is born of the Gospel. It is not tactics, but reasoned charity; it seeks neither winners nor losers; it builds no barriers, but restores authentic bonds. The Pope’s diplomats are called to be invisible, fortified bridges that offer support when events seem difficult to contain, and bridges of hope when goodness wavers.

Why have almost all religious groups in the U.S. declined since the 1950s? To find an answer, we need to understand how children form religious beliefs and why they make religious commitments. --Michael Rota and Stephen Bullivant hubs.la/Q03_34kC0

What stupid comment! Before it was called "Judea", it was Canaan. Just read the Bible. Palestinians did not "rock up on to" anywhere. They are generally the descendants of the ancient Jews who never left but became Christians and later became Muslims.
Paul Robinson@pjrob1812

@RabbiMivasair What country they never had one you try find a country on the map called Palastine they not even a state they just rocked up on to Israel land and we gave them the name it's always been Judea in the land of Juda

Cardinal Radcliffe on the possibility of a gay man becoming pope: “I’m sure there has been one already! I’ve no idea who. But I don’t think people’s sexual identity is particularly important. I’m not worried about somebody being gay – I’d be worried if they didn’t love anybody.” telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/01/0…

Again, with respect, there is absolutely no solid textual, archaeological or epigraphic evidence for that assertion of "early Biblical memories". Indeed the Book of Genesis explicitly states that the patriarch Abraham migrated "to the land of the Philistines." The most direct reference is found in Genesis 21:34, which, according to the New King James Version, reads: "So Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines" In reality it appears that the Israelite and Philistine kingdoms both crystalise during the Bronze Age collapse. The Merneptah Stele at Thebes c1208 BCE is earliest non-Biblical reference to an Israelite Kingdom while talking about the invasions of the Sea Peoples from Libya: “Israel is laid waste, his seed is not.” The first reference to the Peleset is part of the same upheaval: the Medinet Habu inscription c1177BCE on the mortuary temple of Ramesses III mentions the defeat of the Sea Peoples, including the Peleset, and in addition shows a series of naval battle scenes in the Nile Delta, where the Peleset wear distinctive horned or feathered headdresses. Alongside this is an inscription reading: “Their seed is not, their heart and their soul are finished forever and ever. As for those who came forward together on the seas, the full flame was in front of them at the Nile mouths, while a stockade of lances surrounded them on the shore, prostrated on the beach, slain, and made into heaps of corpses from head to tail.” DNA evidence confirms this: both Palestinian and Israeli (especially Mizrahi) populations can match their DNA with that of late Bronze Age skeletons And if modern Palestinians only Identified with Falastin in 1964, why did they name their leading Ottoman-era newspaper after it long before WW1?

Why is this blatantly ahistorical call for ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinians from a minister in Netanyahu’s government not a headline across the globe?
