It's a great day to be a founder: we've named @dougleone chairman of @sequoia. Doug passed the baton a few years back, but he never left: he’s been in the office, working on boards, and serving as consigliere to the next generation. When we realized how much gas Doug has left in the tank, we invited him to ramp back up as an investor at Sequoia. Please cut him some slack as he onboards over the next couple weeks. Let’s go!

To those who don't know our newest investor, it's only a matter of time.
As a teenager, he devoured Plato's Republic and The Feynman Lectures on Physics while learning to row.
At Harvard, he studied Physics and Astrophysics while captaining the heavyweight crew.
After graduation: an AI startup, a PE firm, and a fusion company.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he brought home the Gold in the Men's Four. The first U.S. victory in that event since 1960. His LinkedIn description? No frills, just "Won."
Liam is a great balance of two powerful forces: the physical and the metaphysical.
I'm confident he will be a great partner to daring founders from idea to IPO and beyond. Welcome aboard!

My fiancé @lmcorrigan1 has joined Sequoia!
I feel so lucky to have witnessed him win gold at the Olympics, build towards fusion energy at @FuseEnergyTech, and now back the world’s most ambitious founders. Liam is one of the most resilient and curious people I know, and he loves nothing more than going deep on a hard problem with the people around him. I’m so excited to see what he does next :)

This seems to me the intellectually, psychologically, and philosophically weak reflection one could have on this. Of course there is a darkness behind it, a personal anecdote, something terrible behind the obscene superficiality with which Soros pursues his projects and that ridiculous son of his.
The reason they greet each other there so cheerfully, Curtis and Soros’s son, is that in that moment they become doll-like figures. They have no skin in the game. Nothing they say directly concerns them. They are not leaders fighting for their survival, nor entrepreneurs truly at the helm of something that could succeed or fail. They are both salon figures.
None of it matters in the slightest. It is that giddy silliness you see on their faces. It is a euphoric feeling. We are here in this kitschy environment, in this sentimental Magic Mountain. We have become something like characters from the Efteling fairy tale park. “How amusing. Let us embrace each other, embrace and kiss.”

Generally, the people at the top aren’t sociopaths either. They’re just inside a giant machine they didn’t create. They see everything through the machine’s screen. How else would it work? But once you allow for this—and they for the reverse—they’re easy to get along with
