@IlminsterSteve @pinstripedline Best model I've seen is joint CivMilstaff cells. The CS side of the house ensures consistency and maintenance of corporate knowledge, the Mil side allows for rotation from frontline units whilst ensuring staff cells have relatively contemporaries input from frontline perspective
English

@pinstripedline Not contentious at all, expensive service personnel are being misused in posts that could be better filled by CS and vice versa, and honest appraisal of each post would bring benefits to both, but too often it's how it's always been done rules the decisions
English

A contentious view but credible - you could use civil servants, reservists or retired officers as effectively and at far less cost for a similar outcome.
𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁@combat_boot
Apart from ‘fighting’ Div & Bde HQs all other staff officers should be civilians. There’s no reason to have very expensive, deployable military staff in any jobs at Army HQ, DES, Regional Bdes, etc. We gap jobs all over the military because we send soldiers to work in offices.

@AndrewRawson11 @Clint_Davey1 On top of those Irish troops with the Ancacs, there the whole 10th (Irish) Division of the British army was deployed, losing 8,000 men in 2 months, a further 3 Irish regiments were in other British divisions.
English

@Clint_Davey1 Around four out of ten soldiers of the ANZAC Corps were British or Irish born. Have a look in Charles Bean's Official History (online at the AWM).

Unless you're Australian, New Zealander or Turkish you may not know or care much about the Gallipoli campaign.
But it was a hugely significant event.
-The only large-scale amphibious assault in WW1. D-Day planners had Gallipoli at the back of their minds as an example of what can go wrong with these operations.
-First time Australia and New Zealand fought with their own units at divisional level. Forged our identity as nations, and as distinct from Britain. It also gave the Anzacs invaluable combat experience before they were transferred to the Western Front, where they also served with distinction.
-Saw the rise of Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) who later led Turkey amidst the collapse of the 700 year-old Ottoman Empire. Gallipoli is just as important for Turks as it is for Aussies and New Zealanders.
-Britain's show of force in the Eastern Mediterranean helped convince Italy to join the Allies later in 1915.
-Nearly ruined the career of Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty and the architect of the whole campaign. He spent years trying to rehabilitate his image and make people forget Gallipoli.
-Fought very close to the historical site of Troy, which had been found about 45 years earlier. The Anzacs felt they were involved in something epic and tragic, just like the Trojan War.
-A 9-month trench warfare campaign fought in a tiny 2km by 1km rectangle of cliffs and coastline. Some of the most horrific and difficult close-range fighting in modern warfare.

@FoundationDietz Will you be doing another run of LC:Baltic, as the site kept refusing my transaction prior to payments being paused for you to get shipping done?
English

@StarlightDublin @Jenniferpurc @BobFlavin @WhelJud @one4allireland Was it one of the standard one4all cards or one of the pre-approved ones? The ones I tried with were the standard ones, so perhaps as you have to confirm your ID for the latter it has a higher limit
English

@memeryd @Jenniferpurc @BobFlavin @WhelJud @one4allireland I spent €200 online on my AllGo last week ffs
English

@StarlightDublin @Jenniferpurc @BobFlavin @WhelJud @one4allireland I'm afraid it is true, but only for online transactions, you can use the full value of the card for in-person transactions. Something to do with anti-money laundering laws
English

@Jenniferpurc @BobFlavin @WhelJud @one4allireland Not true. AllGo gift card can be used anywhere and have no limit.

@SeaSpitfires @NickHewitt4 @NatMuseumRN @ddaystory But she remains the last surviving LCT from GOLD beach though
English

But if it is LCT 2135 (and I suspect it probably is), then it does mean that we can no longer claim that LCT 7074 is D-Day’s last surviving LCT!

It’s time for your suggestions...
What kits would you like to see feature in next year’s range?

@TimHirst5 @NavyLookout HMNZS Manawanui is only about 20% of the weight of the MV Baltic Ace, so hopefully will mean she can be re-floated. The issue maybe the internal damage to equipment from flood and fire impacted any potential return to service
English

@NavyLookout I wonder if it can be patched and re floated or if it’ll need to be cut into sections which can be lifted. An example of the second method is the MV Baltic Ace which whent down in 35m outside Rotterdam.

View of the 🇳🇿HMNZS Manawanui wreck site.
RNZN and 🇼🇸Samoan divers continue to assess the ship. A light oil slick has been seen. A leak from an engine room vent is the source which will be plugged.
A Navy team has been established to react to any contamination of local beaches and to remove debris that has started to come ashore.

@KBrenna41443076 @theirishfor Would that be the same Scoil Neasain that engaged in a protracted legal battle with a local sports club to claim squatters rights over a piece of land that the club had developed with floodlights, etc, after the -re development from waste land was complete?
English

@handsome_booger According to their website it is 80c per day remaining on contract, capped at €184.50.

@_forgottenfooty My father played in the LOI side, at least, that's what he told me growing up, but they might have left the LOI by then.

Drumcondra AFC
Drumcondra were one of the big clubs I'm the League of Ireland back in the 1950s and 60s with a huge rivalry with Shamrock Rovers. The club were the first to many things, including the first League of Ireland club to win a European tie on aggragate, the first club to have floodlights installed (Tolka Park) and the first club to field a black player in the League of Ireland, Ray Keogh.

@COMDBattleLab @AustralianArmy @FORCOMDAusArmy Sir, will this be available to other nations for use in PME?
English

Australian Platoon Commander is coming! A professional wargame produced by the @AustralianArmy Battle Lab. It has been designed to develop critical thinking, foresight, innovation, and exercise decision making.
100 game kits heading to Army units now.

English

@FoundationDietz @SebastianBae Is there a release date for LC:Baltic as of yet, as no doubt it will generate an even higher level of interest within European navies?
English

@SebastianBae 's game has had such an impact on military training/education across NATO, the US, and Indo-Pac allies. It makes us feel good to have been able to help make a difference with professional military education!!
Marco Ponyhof@marco_ponyhof
Training wargame facilitators at the German naval academy. Very thankful for the initiative and preparation by members of the leadership faculty. Can’t wait to play the Baltic version. #wargaming @chiefdeunavy @Flot1DeuNavy @deu_flotilla2 @deutschemarine @deumarfor @SebastianBae

@SeaSpitfires Your justifications seems to simply boil down to 'It could have been worse', and 'terrible things have already been done', hardly compelling.

@757200N @EoinKeary @JulietteGash @Ryanair Conversation is about 50-60dB, but as the decibel scale isn't linear 65dB is about 10 times louder, 70dB is up to to 100 times louder
English

@EoinKeary @JulietteGash @Ryanair So about the sound level of a conversation… that’s what happens when you decide to live near an airport that has been there for over 80 years.
English

Michael O'Leary from @Ryanair tells the Oireachtas Transport committee that last year there were 26,000 noise complaints about Dublin Airport. 24,500 of those came from one person. "90% came from one person".
English

@DrTonyODonnell In my estate in Cork we have had no canvassers until tonight, than 3 different campaign teams in 1 evening. Not sure if co-ordinated or if the candidates are simply chasing each other
English

Curious about how active canvassers are on the door step; 11 days to go and we've had only one knock #LE2024; I spent 6 months getting to nearly every door 15 years ago - is it a Castleknock/Dublin thing?
