Christina Koch has been an astronaut for 13 years. She graduated from NASA Academy 25 years ago. She spent nearly all of 2019 living in space aboard the ISS. She's spent two decades working in various roles at NASA. During her time working and living in Antarctica, she was part of the Ocean/Glacier Search and Rescue Team. As an electrical engineer, she worked on developing scientific instruments to be utilized in space.

There was a great documentary on Netflix a while ago that showed how NASA and SpaceX operate differently.
NASA won’t build something until they (think) it’ll run flawlessly and then they build one.
SpaceX will blow up 50 rockets and learn something from every failure and iterate from that.

I always keep quiet when people say “no one knows what they’re doing” cause I split my yearly goals into quarters, those quarters, to months, those months to weeks, and those weeks to days. And each day has a todo list that bubbles up to the goals I’ve set. 😬

I see the “everybody is winging it” narrative picking up again and…it’s a comfort statement that’s simply not true. There are people who know exactly what they’re doing. They just look detached from the outcome because they have total trust in their execution.

people misunderstand the icarus story. the problem was not that he flew too high. it's that the wings were made of beeswax, which offered very little resistance to heating. with modern materials he would have had no problems. we can fly as close to the sun as we want now

@AlanRMacLeod So your position is that the US should simply donate free stuff to Zimbabwe even though Zimbabwe has the ability to pay - expanding mineral access would be payment. That's how the world works, America is under no obligation to fund Zimbabwe's HIV problem.

A mate has pulled out of my birthday dinner in London next Saturday as he's worried about an Iranian sleeper cell terror attack.
I'm no expert but I think they may go for airports, power plants, govt buildings etc rather than Albert's Schloss Bavarian bar and restaurant in Soho.
