“Can I bring my baby to the interview?” The message came in at 11 PM: “Hi, I have an interview with you tomorrow at 2 PM. My childcare fell through. Can I bring my 8-month-old? I understand if you need to reschedule.” Old me would have rescheduled. Unprofessional. Distraction. Red flag. New me replied: “Absolutely. See you tomorrow.” She showed up with her baby on her hip. She apologized three times before even sitting down. Ten minutes in, the baby started crying. She tried to soothe him while answering questions. She apologized again. I stopped the interview and said: “Hey. You’re managing a fussy baby, answering complex questions, and staying calm under pressure. That’s literally the job. Handling chaos while staying professional. You’re already proving you can do it.” Her eyes filled with tears. We hired her. She’s been with us for a year now. The most reliable team member we have. Why? Because when you’re used to handling a screaming infant at 3 AM and still showing up to work the next day, workplace stress feels like nothing. Working parents, especially mothers, are some of the most organized, efficient, and resilient people you’ll ever hire. Yet we lose them because our hiring processes are built for people with zero caregiving responsibilities. If your interview process can’t accommodate a parent facing a childcare issue, you’re not filtering for professionalism. You’re filtering for privilege.

@vicgoddard @RoyalMail Evri is the worst, there's no way to chat or call customer service. Whenever it's Evri, I switch to pickup or cancel the order.

Dear @RoyalMail the message below is a simple untruth. You have made no attempt to deliver the parcel. Someone has been in all day to receive it. At the time you state it was attempted the front door was open. Please just be honest and don’t become Evri

@vicgoddard @RoyalMail This infuriates me!! Just tell the truth you ran out of time to deliver, people much prefer the truth even if it’s a little annoying!

@StevenGNorman @marksandspencer I didn’t buy the tiger bread in Tesco today for this very reason. I’ve seen people pick up and put down bread and you can’t exactly wash bread 😖

I had looked forward with some excitement to the new @marksandspencer Food Store in Cannock but you'll forgive me for not wanting bread, no matter how great looking, that is exposed to coughs, sneezes, unwashed hands and so on from customers.

The Tories lost control of our borders and let net migration soar to record levels, undercutting hardworking Brits. I won't stand for it. I promised to restore control and cut migration, and I'm delivering with tough new measures. British workers – I’ve got your back.

@RupertLowe10 My friends daughter goes to school in wales as long as her attendance is above a certain percentage she is allowed 5 days a year off school. It meant she could take her to New York before Christmas last year had she of waited until the Christmas holidays it was treble the price!

Parents should be allowed to take their children out of school for a very limited number of days per year, over reasons they choose. Let's show a bit of common sense here. The prices are so wildly different out of term time, it is often the difference between a family being able to afford a decent holiday abroad, or not go at all. Will a child missing a week of school a year damage their education? Perhaps, a little. Will that quality time spent with their family more than compensate? Yes, yes it will. And that is a decision for the parents to take, not the state. I have pushed the Department on this, with zero progress. They just don't want to know. Let's remember - MPs have very generous time off from Westminster, timed to coincide with the school holidays. Others do not have that same luxury, particularly in areas that are reliant on tourism - like my constituency All of this from the same people who shut schools for months when the virus posed almost zero risk to children, and were desperate to do it for longer. Forcing boys and girls to learn from a kitchen table, and many had no access to proper outdoor space. THAT did far more damage to children's education than a few days away in the sun with their family. PLEASE. Let's just show a modicum of common sense, FOR ONCE. If parents want to take their child out of school for a limited period of time, very occasionally, as they believe that experience will benefit their son or daughter? I say that's their choice.

The absolute state of the UK... 1. Energy prices are going up, again. 2. Business taxes are rising and crippling. 3. Mortgage rates are hammering homeowners. 4. Rent is insane, people can’t afford to live. 5. Inflation is still going up, real pay is falling. 6. Food prices are a joke—basics cost a fortune. 7. Public services are collapsing—NHS, transport, policing, all broken. 8. Small businesses are dying, high streets are ghost towns. 9. Tax burden is the highest in 70 years. 10. National debt is out of control, but they just keep pissing money away. This is unsustainable. The UK is breaking.

I fully support the Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer ‘s announcement to significantly increase the UK’s defence budget. He’s recognised the increased threat, and our diminished ability to protect ourselves, and taken decisive action. First big positive thing he’s done as PM. 👏
