I'm not saying Trump is a Russian asset, just that I can't think of anything he'd be doing differently if he were.

@pgmrmr @simonmaechling Hi. In the Huntington's study the intervention blocks the formation of a toxic protein. No toxic protein has been identified in ALS, as far as I know, so the approach couldn't be adapted directly- but I think it's v. likely that other gene therapies will be tried in the future.

@simonmaechling Since both diseases are neurodegenerative is it possible similar technology could be close for ALS? Or is it that Huntington’s is inherited that made this possible?

Huntington’s disease is brutal. A single DNA error → toxic protein → dead brain cells. No cure. Always fatal. Always inherited. But now? Science has flipped the script. How the new gene therapy works: 1️⃣ Huntington’s mutation makes a toxic protein that kills neurons. 2️⃣ Doctors infuse gene therapy directly into the brain through a catheter. 3️⃣ Neurons absorb the genetic code - and turn into mini drug factories. 4️⃣ The therapy blocks the faulty messenger RNA → less toxic protein. The result? A 75% slowdown in disease progression. Patients still walking when they should be in wheelchairs. One man back at work after being medically retired. This is not science fiction. It’s genetic medicine, delivered in real time. Advanced science… To families living with Huntington’s, it feels like magic.

This is irresponsible conspiracy-theory nonsense. It will create fear and anxiety among parents and pregnant women will suffer unnecessary pain by believing it. But Farage doesn’t care about that. That’s why he chose to platform anti-vaxxers at his conference. Not a serious party of government.

@MotherMRuss This is awful, and outrageous. My recognition that you've had a monstrously unjust experience doesn't help you, and nor do my good wishes - but you have them. Best regards

The press conference about Tylenol and autism was a hot mess of disinformation, political gesturing, confused messaging. Science, evidence, concern for pregnant women was nowhere near it. Embarrassing stuff.

@Wilket @DrNeilStone To the fans, he's a matchless off-the-cuff speaker - funny, better able to see what's really going on than the 'experts', and terrific at communicating complex information in simple language. And of course, he Calls It As He Sees It. God help us.

In celebration at reaching 38k followers, I’m going to share the story of why I’m banned from the nearest lesbian bar. I told it once before, but that was roughly 20k followers ago, so bear with me if you’ve heard this one. So about 3 years ago, my then-gf and I decided that we’d go to the only lesbian bar in the area to see a local artist we really liked. We got our drinks and sat down in a booth, and within 5 minutes, a “transwoman” had come over and tried to sit next to me. I made it very clear in polite but firm language that we were there as a couple, and had no interest in socializing with anyone else. He went away — but that wasn’t the end of it. He spent the next two hours harassing us. He tried to send us drinks, kept stopping by to talk, and even put his hand on my shoulder. I told him not to touch me, and he apologized, but three minutes later he was back with another excuse to initiate conversation. At that point, I needed to use the bathroom, so after making sure my gf was comfortable being left alone - something I never expected to have to do in a lesbian bar –, I got up and went to the restroom. When I left the stall, the “transwoman” was at the sinks. As I washed my hands, he came up and grabbed my arm. I told him loudly not to touch me, but he tightened his grip and pulled me towards him — so I turned sideways and kneed him in the balls. He dropped in a most satisfying way, so I dried my hands and left him writhing on the bathroom floor, calling me every name he could think of. I rejoined my gf, prepared to enjoy the rest of the night in peace, but less than 10 minutes later, the manager came to our table and told me I’d been transphobic and would have to leave. When I protested that I’d acted in self defense, she explained that I wasn’t being kicked out for defending myself, but for “making bigoted assumptions about a trans person’s genitals.” In other words, I’d transphobically assumed that my assailant had balls which I could knee. Had I punched him in the nose or broken his wrist, there would presumably have been no problem, but because I assumed that a man who was assaulting me had balls, I was no longer welcome in their establishment. This was one of the things that pushed me to make this account.

w/ a rank above colonel + below major general, commanding a brigade or holding a senior staff role. Th term 'brigadier' serves a similar purpose in the British Army +other Commonwealth countries, but it's considered a senior field officer rank, rather than th lowest general rank.

@jimalkhalili Just listening to your fascinating discussion with Dr Collett. Nano-thing- since 1921, it's 'Brigadier' in the British Army, not Brigadier general. Google AI: 'A brigadier general is the lowest-ranking general officer in the US Army, Air Force and Marines, (cont.)
