@JeremyWingert79 @AiG Forgot 3: it’s entirely made up. The existence of small floods led people to imagine the idea of a huge flood. Much like the existence of large lizards and/or dinosaur bones led people to imagine dragons.

@JeremyWingert79 @AiG 2 equally likely scenarios: 1) a flood covered the globe despite earth not having enough atmospheric water to do so. 2) a big flood hit an early civilization, probably Mesopotamia, and people kept talking about it for generations because before books/tv stories is all they had.

@TheAndrewNadeau I’m in if he reenacts his cameo from Extras word for word uncomfortably early in whatever episodes correspond to book 1. Are they doing one season per book? Actually nevermind. I don’t care and won’t watch.

He also very clearly doesn’t want to be there. Openly drinking a beer in some shots. In 3 episodes he introduces himself as “I’m Dan I mean Harry.” During a quidditch scene his broom is clearly a Vespa because he wouldn’t leave the set parking lot.

I wouldn’t have watched either way but I’m a bit disappointed the Harry Potter series didn’t use my idea of keeping Daniel Radcliffe as Harry and never addressing that he’s 36.

Skill Issue - clothes for technologists
@zachkowalik We tried for 3 months to find a factory in the US that could make it. Reindustrializing is going to be a process—we’re helping with the demand side. Hope to someday sell you a sweater made in the USA.

@skillissuesf @zachkowalik Gross. I would simply not sell $300 sweaters to people if it required me to totally violate my own principles. "Reindustrialize is a process." Ok, so what's the process? Where are your plans for the factory? Clearly we need an American clothes factor more than your graphic tees

In no way is Maine considered a "massive state" . . . it is TINY. It's actually the 11th smallest state in the country.... East coast people have such skewed perceptions of reality.

@METS2026 @JeffPassan TBF at least 27 teams regret missing out on him (I think Pit’s happy with its choice and not sure Texas can really complain about Langford but that’s about it).

So who’s your favorite muppet? Cool, cool. Aaand, what would you say was your favorite sketch from the 1978 Muppet Show episode that got Peter Sellers an Emmy nomination? Top 3 is fine.

A surprisingly challenging part of making friends as an adult is when you both say you like the muppets and you have to play it cool until you find out if they mean a regular amount or the way I like the muppets.

Reminds me of the Soviet classic - only bad guys should be afraid of the KGB! After all, you should have no issue with an unaccountable militarized security force pushing into every aspect of your life unless you've got something to be afraid of, right comrade?
Dyrwolf@dyrwolf1

@Kasparov63 Funny, as an American citizen, I have no issue with ICE at polling stations. Only illegals need be concerned. And they should not be at the polls in a foreign country. I remember traveling to Europe many times, with armed military on subway platforms. I felt safe.

The thing I feel most cognitively dissonant about when thinking about history is how much time everyone spent being physically uncomfortable. Heavy itchy wool, greasy hair, too cold or hot. If I try to imagine myself doing daily life circa 1704 I get immediately blocked by that

@jwhittenbergK5 On a related note everyone should watch the Seawolves. Rugby’s awesome. Football-level action with soccer-level pacing/constant motion. And if you’re worried you won’t understand the rules I guarantee you’ll it’ll take less than 2 minutes to find someone happy to help you out.

Here's why Seattle is a sports town... If the Sonics return, Seattle will be one of 12 U.S. cities to have teams in the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and MLS. Atlanta, New York, L.A., Miami, Chicago, Denver, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Washington D.C...and Seattle. 🏀Add the WNBA...and it's 7. Atlanta, New York, L.A. Chicago, Minneapolis, D.C...and Seattle. ⚽️Add the NWSL...and it's 4 New York, L.A., Washington D.C. ...and Seattle. 🏒Add Women's pro Hockey... and it's 2. New York and Seattle. Need one step further… add pro Rugby. Only one City remains…. Seattle has them all covered. Seattle is a sports town. ✊

@jimhamilton4 We should have a ten team British and Irish league, no relegation, reduce substitutions to create more tries and more vital moments, lots more pageantry and market towards the working class for exciting crowds which adds to tv viewing experience

@JMikeMLB @Pogojar @PeterAttar33 @MLB Except you pretty clearly can. If you were right at least one of the 30 teams would buck the trend and revert to old-school tactics and coaching. The last 2 who tried (CO until recently, AZ under Dave Stewart) were the laughingstock of the league.

The Big League Approach
Hitters have just as much talent as ever before but are being taught to focus on the wrong things. EV, LA, pull the ball in the air. All terrible advice. Hitters today mostly care about HR or nothing. They don’t care if they K. Annnnd the strike zone is tighter than ever! @MLB
nwcodad.bsky.social@nwcodad

@JMikeMLB @atrillerr @ciaci4175 @TheWARmonger_ @MLB @jjcoop36 @TreadHQ @DrivelineBB Hitters have gotten better too. All but the best hitters in the 60s would be helpless against the best starters and lockdown relievers pitching today. Athletes in every sport get better over time as populations grow and processes, knowledge, and technology improve.

@Pogojar @PeterAttar33 @JMikeMLB @MLB Logically, it makes way more sense to assign run values to each event (single, double, etc.) based on how many runs they're actually worth, as demonstrated by sample sizes in the 10,000s, than to treat a single and a HR the same (or a double as worth exactly twice a single, etc).

@Pogojar @PeterAttar33 @JMikeMLB @MLB I buy into analytics because of simple regression and logic. OPS correlates ridiculously well with run scoring, and wOBA correlates even better. Batting average and strikeouts don't.
