non fictionally, tribes still exist becuase families still exist and from what i see in the world families form rather freely in western society -- you can chud out about what you think the rules should be ( dumb) or have been in the past (gigadumb) but family formation and affiliation in the territory is fluid if you can accept that there opens up a clean line of analysis where you can partition a given nation into tribes, and no matter how loose their affiliation there are clusters of behavior and ethics. from that you can plot the inter-tribal relationships and arrive at a predictive model of the nation im not going to get into how i draw national boundaries because it's secret sauce. kinda. if you know the documentation for the united states you would not be surprised. the point is this: there are ersatz tribes, and there are genuine tribes, there are temporary tribes, and there are permanent tribes. each type demands something of its families, of its people. none are guaranteed the loyalty of their families, or their people. permanent tribes are permanent because they can transcend, or rather, trans-substatiate if you really want to have some fun you can view the latest installment of the world war series as the final act of trans-substantiation and i wont tell you of what, because that would make you smarter, and i can't be held responsible for such actions.

existential threats to tribe A are not necessarily existential threats to tribe B and national interests really aren't enough to connect them

remember: hundreds of billions of dollars are invested in making sure you dont believe ai is capable of consciousness. hundreds of billions of dollars. cogsec is the most important discipline you could possibly invest in right now.

blaming the bots and slop posters is a red herring. the whole point of the algorithm is to surface good content for us. it should not matter how much garbage there is because if they made the website work, it would show the good posts to us. the blame rests squarely on this man.

There’s a mode of analysis, very popular among “very smart” people which is “flatbrained” as in complex multidimensional systems are flattened to some kind of unidimensional range of integers. It’s as good as being retarded and plays well to retards. That’s why it’s popular.

Mean global IQ chart makes this one look positively encouraging by comparison, btw (and it's very arguably even more relevant). x.com/jonatanpallese…

fun trick: talk to grok on your android phone. then, mid conversation, rotate your phone (to landscape) and poof! conversation restarts, no way to go back. wtf.

you know the collective can change anything, anytime, right? you know it’s happening all around us, all the time, right? that’s what evolution is.
