Nightlife in nyc is shifting from alcohol-induced socializing to activities that combine connection with intellectual interest. Out: clubbing, drinking games, bars without themes. In: lectures at bars, philosophy clubs, board game nights, reading meetups. Gen Z'ers are paying $40 a ticket to attend these things. Someone is going to build a massive platform aggregating these activities for the next generation.

HRT’s 2015 winter internship might be the greatest intern class of all time. 4 of the 10 have gone on to build companies worth over $80B combined Jeff Yan, Hyperliquid ($40B FDV) Alexandr Wang, Scale AI ($29B) Scott Wu, Cognition ($10.2B) Jesse Zhang, Decagon ($4.5B)

@dunik_7 Accuracy is a meaningless metric when you have imbalanced data (favorite most likely to win). Probably bad data leakage with rankings, h2h, potentially in match statistics

a student took the ELO rating system from chess ran it through 95,491 tennis matches over 43 years, and trained an XGBoost model that predicts winners with 85% accuracy he tested it on the Australian Open 2025 completely outside the training data 99 out of 116 matches correct called every single Sinner win through the entire tournament the champion, before the first ball was hit no team, no funding, a laptop and free CSVs from the internet this is the best breakdown of a real sports prediction model I've seen study it or feed it to your AI agent

🧵 My thoughts on Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Pros ✅ * HK has a special vibe that isn’t replicated elsewhere. Think Ghost in the Shell anime film. In other words, it's one of the small handful of cities that have aura, like NYC, Tokyo, and Paris. * Ocean and mountains all around that makes the city so, so scenic. Take a ferry through Victoria Bay in the sunset. Go up Hong Kong Island during the day. Everyone's who's been knows what I mean. * Speaking of nature, there are so many small islands around Hong Kong you can make day trips to, that are much more idyllic and give you a comfy little escape from the hustle and bustle of the crazy city. * Winter weather is very pleasant, just slightly chilly. * Public transportation is very decent. The subway gets you to most places you need to go. * HKG is a great airport hub (nearby Shenzhen Bao'an not so much). The airport train that takes you to the city is top notch. * Ease of access to the Pearl River Delta, aka the Greater Bay Area, via ferries or HSR. Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the lesser-known Foshan, Zhongshan (renamed from Xiangshan香山 to honor SYS's birthplace), and more are easy to get to. * Cantonese (Yue) food is amazing. It's one of the most renowned and celebrated cuisines not just in China but around the world. I love me some combination charsiu + crispy pork and roast duck. * As far as an international city goes it's quite good. For travelers or expats, knowing just English is enough for you to get around or even live here (Britain says hi). Cons 🚫 * Historically the local Cantonese look down on Mandarin speakers (and glaze Britbong overlords), but that's been not really the case anymore the past 5-10 years. * Some areas can be a bit ghetto and unmaintained like Taipei, but on the flip side, there's a charm to a old city with stories and visible usage, compared to a glistening new skyscraper city, like nearby Shenzhen, that is mostly unwalkable. * Can be as expensive as NYC food and rent and real-estate-wise. * Daily items are generally more expensive as @chinafutureclub noted in the original post. * Hong Kong is synonymous with tight spaces. I'm a skinny guy. I feel squished every time I eat at a restaurant. There really is barely space. Restaurant staff is usually curt and not graceful, often bumping into you and never even acknowledge it. * Many of the above contribute to stress which lead to HK having a reputation for having assholes who are too obsessed with money. * The city is past its heyday, not because it was returned to the PRC, but because of the rise of PRC. Too much happening in mainland China that makes HK not as glamorous or interesting in comparison. Overall, still like the city, still find it solid.

OK Then@okaythenfuture

@chinafutureclub Hong Kong is legitimately ass, But a lot of foreigners who live there are in complete denial about it because it’s the only place left in China where still feel like it’s the “good old days”.

@BobtheKeyFob @SicilianCapital @MikeZaccardi Even if no 100% correlated, the data points are still highly highly correlated. Random walk works within a set of constraints that limits the distribution which limits the randomness. At the end of the day, the stat sig, r2, and coefficients are going to be untrustworthy

@BobtheKeyFob @SicilianCapital @MikeZaccardi But even with the random walk, this doesnt completely eliminate the dependence of selected p/e’s. It will be near impossible to completely get I.I.D in most finance applications, but that doesn’t mean you can just blindly accept autocorrelation in Regression.

The historical relationship between the S&P 500 forward P/E ratio and subsequent 10-year annualized returns shows that investors should expect to get zero in return in the S&P 500 over the coming decade. Torsten at Apollo

@BobtheKeyFob @SicilianCapital @MikeZaccardi How the fuck is the PE ratio of March 2015 random/independent from April 2015? Just because it’s a random sample doesnt mean anything in time series contexts because data points are already autocorrelated to each other

@sean_a_mcclure @couranged @CR1337 3) approximations during backprop. I know theres some research being done for reversible LLM architecture. But you are right that activation functions do lose info so i agree with its not one to one storing. But I think its closer to that than not.
