Interesting article and thread. A key takeaway being that the UK is a bad place to have children. Our homes, tax system and childcare policies inhibit our potential to grow the population, putting people off having children and discriminating against some who do.

Politicians love proposing these ideas - something similar was listed in the 2019 Tory Manifesto - and guys like @montysblog and @LondonMoneyFS know how much I like talking about it. Firstly, 10 and even 25+ year fixes are available in UK, if niche. People just don't take them!

From April this year, working parents in England can claim 15 hours free childcare for two year olds.

Britain’s poor face the worst winter in living memory.
A year ago we talked about people having to choose between heating and eating, now many can’t afford either. Basics like soap, toothpaste etc are becoming unaffordable luxuries.
And it’s only going to get worse.
