Really excited to present this work led by @nhunguyen2811 at @IMBatUQ in collaboration with @sumaira_hasnain Glen Ulett and Jana Vukovic.

Researchers at @IMBatUQ have discovered why some E. coli bacteria cause severe disease and others don't. @LabSchembri says a mutation helps affected bacteria spread in the body, a finding that could help fight antibiotic resistance. Read more: brnw.ch/21wHci7 📸Adobe

Very excited to share our work on NMEC led by @nhunguyen2811 (under review by eLife). We highlight that even with appropriate antibiotic treatment, causative NMEC that resides intestinally might not be eliminated and can cause relapse. medrxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…

Our work on the RNA interactome of Staph is out (twice!). Using RNase III-CLASH our groups uncovered RNA interactions controlling vancomycin tolerance (a last-line antibiotic) and production of cytolytic toxins. nature.com/articles/s4146… nature.com/articles/s4146…

The plasmid gene aac(6’)-Ib-cr confers 4x increase in MIC to cipro in strains already harbour resistant gyrA and parC mutations. This dual resistance combination shows strong association with emerging carbapenem resistant clones. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/AA…

In Norfolk in November (& 1st 3 days of Dec), 19% (131/681) of SARS-CoV-2 genomes were the new variant (B.1.1.7). There were none in October so this has expanded quite rapidly.
