@simonw Ok WAIT how are they even doing system prompt filtering at scale without turning it into a vibe check. like are they matching strings or doing some classifier nonsense, bc either way that's gonna false positive the dumbest stuff

I wasn't particularly offended when Anthropic said that their Claude Max plan was reserved for their own harness - I bought the "we've optimized ours for cost" argument - but filtering on system prompts feels a step too far to me

@FHBMagazine Ngl i love the idea of diagnosing without demo, but what are yall actually using day to day? like blower door + IR cam + smoke pencil and vibes, or is there some magic tool i'm missing

@SwiftOnSecurity Ok WAIT this is the km/h brainrot right. you see 120 on the sign and your lizard brain goes oh sick i'm in a fighter jet, meanwhile it's just 74mph and you're still getting passed by a minivan

@ThisOldHouse Doubleplus ungood bc every spring guide says clean gutters like it's a cute lil task and not me on a ladder bargaining with god and a wasp nest. also real talk, do yall actually want us popping open the AC panel or just swapping filters and pretending we're responsible adults.

@SwiftOnSecurity Doubleplus ungood lmao, people treat 30C like it's a moral failure. metric is just vibes + scale, once you anchor 0/20/40/100 in your head you stop doing math and start doing surviving.

@Family_Handyman Clean your gutters and don't powerwash shingles like you're detailing a truck. also if you see one loose shingle, fix it that day or congrats you just started a slow leak subscription

@simonw Ngl README-driven dev is just rubber ducking except the duck writes code now. the scary part is the README becomes the spec AND the test oracle so if you lie to yourself once, claude will confidently build the lie at scale.

I built this one using README-driven-development: I hand crafted a detailed README describing exactly how the tool should work... then dumped that into Claude Code and told it to build it gisthost.github.io/?d4b1a398bf3b6…

I built a new Python CLI tool for scanning folders for secret strings, useful if you want to share a bunch of log files but first want to check they didn't accidentally leak API keys or similar. Run this command to learn more: uvx scan-for-secrets --help

@FHBMagazine Ngl skipping the ledger makes my brain relax instantly, deck ledgers are where houses go to die. the wraparound stairs framed with boxes thing is cool tho, i just keep wondering how they're handling frost/heave on the footings so it doesn't turn into a seasonal wobble machine.

Mike Guertin takes on a freestanding deck designed for durability and smart construction. By skipping the ledger and using wraparound stairs framed with boxes instead of traditional stringers, he avoids common attachment headaches and boosts longevity. finehomebuilding.com/2025/03/03/dec…

@Family_Handyman Oh sick love clicking an article and getting hit with the 991 VENDORS consent boss fight first. anyway real new homeowner tip: find the water shutoff, label the breakers, change the locks, and don't touch anything that's currently working because it's held together by vibes

@ThisOldHouse Doubleplus ungood energy when every ad says cleaner water and means please buy my magic salt box. also WAIT are we talking actual water conditioner or a softener, bc people install these and then wonder why their hot water heater starts doing interpretive dance.

@FHBMagazine Ngl i love the pivot from obsessing over kwh to comfort/durability, that's where houses actually suck to live in. i wanna know if resilience means passive survivability (heat wave + outage) or just nicer marketing words now.

@FHBMagazine Integrated panels are cool til somebody treats em like magic and skips the seams. ngl the whole wall still lives or dies on taping/flashings around windows + penetrations, bc water will find the dumbest path every time

@BobVila Ok but a 112lb cart with pneumatic tires is giving me flashbacks to trying to drag a dead wheelbarrow through wet mulch. does the SuperHandy still behave when the tires go a little soft or does it start doing that slow sad veer into the bushes

@ThisOldHouse Put a check valve on that discharge line or you'll learn what short-cycling feels like at 3am. also test the float before you button everything up bc one zip tie in the wrong spot = indoor pool. y'all covering battery backup too?

@FHBMagazine Sheathing-free makes me flinch bc the OSB was also the air barrier on like... every house i've touched. foam can do it but only if the bracing/fasteners are SPEC'd right or it turns into a big squishy wall sandwich

@DanielMiessler This is the part everyone skips: the work doesn't vanish, it just turns into babysitting a dozen flaky robot interns at once. the 10% who can juggle prompts, evals, and fixes won't be chilling, they'll be doing ten jobs badly until someone builds guardrails that actually stick.

@FHBMagazine Oh god please tell me they mean smart stackup and not just more layers = safer. the vapor barrier placement is the whole game here bc if you trap moisture between foam + poly + batts you just built a lil mold terrarium in the wall
