After 7 years at @Alchemy. Signing off. From fewer than 10 people and a hacked waitlist to a multi-product platform for developers. Grateful to @nikil and @thejoelau for the trust. Sabbatical next: rest, read, and build.

Come design cool stuff with us or at least judge our typography choices from the inside. 👀

welcome @tanishqxyz! we're stoked to have such a talented web3 designer and builder join the @Alchemy team!

This week, I joined @Alchemy as a Product Designer. For 20 years, I've watched developers shape how we interact with technology. From building search engines that mapped the web, to payment systems that moved money like data. We are now witnessing a new wave of intelligent systems that demand resilient, permission-less infrastructure. As crypto weaves into mainstream applications, we're entering a Cambrian explosion of possibilities built onchain. This groundwork needs to be rock-solid. That's my mission at Alchemy –– To give developers the firepower they need to build what comes next.

Today is my last day at Alchemy. I planned to draft a few sentences to announce this but realized the last 2.5 years deserve more. None of the boring: “Wow, what a journey! Excited for the next adventure!” “But Kate, first, why are you leaving?” Right. For those of you that want the tl;dr: - I’m ready to work at a smaller company - I want to work more closely with developers I’m also ready to advocate for the type of onchain future that I believe in. We need louder voices for creatives. We need designers who aren’t afraid to challenge existing thinking and fight for UX solutions that are rooted in long-term thinking. We need more visionaries that inspire a variety of onchain apps (pls i can only take so many onchain casinos). Instead of complaining online, I’m choosing to lead by example. I’ll make another announcement in January about where I’m headed next. Still, moving on from Alchemy has been one of the hardest decisions of my life. A moment to reflect For most people, it’s rare to work at a company and see it as anything more than a job. Usually, when a company preaches about culture and says the F word (family), seasoned people know to run. However, Alchemy leads by extraordinary example. I’m leaving knowing my preconceived notion was wrong, and I’m eternally grateful that it was. Work hard, play hard Alchemy brought together 200 remarkably driven, talented, and kind individuals and encouraged us to push what we thought was possible. Working here allowed me to: - Move to SF and experience a new pace of life - Travel between SF and NYC (bucket list item checked) - Enjoy so many fun team events (offsites, dinners, etc) However, we were in the trenches together, and there was much work to be done: - It forced me to level up - It instilled that nothing is ever given; it is earned - It taught me even more resilience Most importantly, it has given me the experience and strength to chase after the things that strike my curiosity. The last few years have been filled with many late nights, incredible memories, and an insane amount of yerba mate, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. If you happen to work at Alchemy and you’re reading this: thank you. Love you, miss you, mean it. If you don’t: I hope you experience something similar one day (or, you can apply since they’re hiring lol). For the rest of the year, I plan to recharge creatively: making 3D art, learning three.js, writing, being with family, playing video games, doing kate things, idk. See ya in the new year. Onwards.
