This was shocking to me. Lighting has gone from the largest residential use of electricity to the sixth-largest in my lifetime. Clothes dryers alone now use more aggregate electricity than lighting in people's homes.

It’s the age of electricity and America isn’t ready. Virtually every goal that Americans care about requires big changes to the power grid. I’m in @nytopinion today on why power bills are going up, whether AI is to blame, & what we need to do about it: nytimes.com/interactive/20…

@joelgombiner @MrNew_Vegas_ @cojobrien I miss the warmth and softness of that light. But finding bulbs anymore—even fixtures with bulbs—is pretty hard. Too we just had cans replaced in a bath and we could pick (and change later) the spectrum and have dimming capabilities. Vastly better than early LEDs.

@MrNew_Vegas_ @cojobrien I went back. I don't feel the difference in my electricity bill and I like incandescent light much better. I have a small apartment and overall low-energy intensity lifestyle so I don't feel bad about it.

@GoDucksnet But it’s better than lasagna. East Broadway (Now maybe Chula’s) had a tavern style (allegedly a Chicago Southside original) that was fabulous pie. Although back then the only other option was Pietro’s in Glenwood.

@rakealito Funniest--at least to me--airport story is that my younger brother and his friends would drive up to the airport (35 miles) to play pinball because the terminal concourse would still be open when everything had closed for the night.

San Francisco International Airport debuts its visitor pass program for people who want to enter post-security without an airline ticket. It’s called SFO Gate Explorer. Other U.S. airports have similar programs. With Gate Explorer access, you can greet friends and family on domestic arrivals, walk loved ones to their gates, grab a bite or shop post-security, watch planes take off and land, or join special airport events—all without flying. A few important rules: this pass is for personal use only (no business or commercial activity), and meeting international arrivals isn’t allowed—you’ll need to meet them in the International Terminal Arrivals Hall instead. All participants, including minors, must complete a TSA background check, and everyone must follow standard airport security rules. Minors under 18 must stay with an approved adult at all times. Visitors need to plan ahead, review TSA guidelines, apply in advance on the SFO website, and enjoy a unique behind-the-scenes airport experience at SFO.

@LMandrakeJr Our son (proud CUT alum) grew up taking light rail to PDX, running down an often empty concourse, watching planes with face and hands glued to the windows, grab an ice cream and ride the MAX home. 4 year old heaven. Great parent outing too.

@rakealito Parents would take us to watch the planes when I was a little kid and we lived reasonably close to MSP.

I'm kidding, of course. Most/all of the extra bids will go to the power conference schools.

@JohnMorton215 Moray Old & RAF Lossiemouth. Commercial is cool but military is 🔥. Sunnyvale Muni had landing lights across the 10th fairway for Moffett Field when it was an active military airfield. One day a P-3 crash landed there. Occasional U-2 departures were deafening.

This is bad and its incumbent upon people with platforms to push back on it. We have rapid fire still photos of Trump grabbing his ear in Butler from the NYT, a man died, Trump was treated by nurses at a hospital. All these people are in on the conspiracy? Lunacy. No "pro-democracy" interest is served by living in unreality.
Jesse Arm@Jesse_Leg

In our last @ManhattanInst survey, we found that 46% of today’s Democratic coalition believes “the assassination attempt against Donald Trump in July 2024 was orchestrated by his supporters to increase sympathy for him.” manhattan.institute/article/do-dem…

@KlayLincoln @BaseballCentraI He put the bat on the ball about as good as anyone but he actually isn’t anywhere near the top of career OBP. The hardest out was Ted Williams.

Eric Gagne vs Barry Bonds. Cy Young vs MVP. Everyone in the stadium was standing and every player was at the top step of the dugout. Awesome matchup.

What so many people forget when they read things like this is the magical world of TAXES AND EXPENSES. Let’s assume he finishes in last in these three upcoming events… - Probably an average of 30-40% taken for taxes - Another 10-15% for agent/manager/coach/etc. - At least $6-$7k a week in travel expenses …meaning, he MIGHT take home $10-$12k per event for last place. I’m not saying that’s nothing. And I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve the income. But just remember he’s not putting $108,000 in the bank!
David Rumsey@_DavidRumsey

By accepting PGA Tour membership, Alex Fitzpatrick is in the field at Cadillac Championship this week + remaining signature events. Last place at the 3 no-cut signatures pays out $36,000. So, Fitzpatrick is guaranteed another $108,000 on top of his $1.37M Zurich Classic win.

Name that U.S. airline that can pull off sashimi (and Salt and Straw!) in domestic first class. It’s definitely not one of the Big 3 🤣
