I believe the death penalty is wrong. But far-right politicians in Israel found a way to make it even more unjust and morally reprehensible: by passing a law that would apply it almost exclusively to Palestinians. This is abhorrent. Anyone involved in carrying out this directive should be sanctioned by the United States government. It is long past time to put our money where our mouth is and impose consequences for the Israeli government’s ongoing occupation of the Palestinian territories and two-tiered system of justice.

The Pope cites Lebanon as an example of peaceful “coexistence” between Christians and Muslims. Fun fact: Lebanon was literally created to be a homeland for persecuted Christians in the Middle East. And it was for a few decades. The moment Muslim invaders thought they had the numbers, they started a civil war that lasted 15 years because they didn’t want to live with the same Christians who made them part of the country. Thousands of Christians were massacred, Muslims became the majority, Hezbollah took over, and the country hasn’t known peace ever since. Lebanon is the first and ultimate example that coexistence between Christians and Muslims is quite literally impossible. It’s mind-blowing that anyone would use it as an example of coexistence, let alone the Pope.

STEIL: “Does Minnesota issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens?” SIMON: Yes. STEIL: “Does the license distinguish whether someone is a citizen?” SIMON: No. Rep. Bryan Steil then pointed out that Minnesota allows same-day voter registration. So an illegal alien could show up to vote using a license that does not indicate whether they are legally eligible. Ouch.

The Death Penalty Law is another tool Israel is using to kill Palestinians.
