@cqcqcqdx On the side what seems to be a SPARCstation ELC, first computer I had at my desk. Loved it.

@ATaylorFPGA Nice! A bit of a reverso too - test gear being a couple of orders of magnitude cheaper than the device under test :)

@GigglyPigeon Agreed. Nephew was close to stepping out in the previous bout. Yoko show down on day 5? Who drew short straw I wonder…

@TheRealMike Zones are still useful to illustrate climatic differences. No Longley-Rice. Guess I’m just disappointed that for a 2024 release the content is quite so old - analogue video and SSB voice - no DVB, no OFDM etc.

@robert_watson The rain zones were quite useful. Your non-relative at the time, Peter, was involved in a study to see if the rain zones had changed with climate. Ippolito was the go to reference in the late 80s. Surprised Longley-Rice isn't there, or is it?

Thought I'd check out the 5th edition of Roddy et al., Sat Comms book since it was available online at the library. Opened the chapter on Radio Wave Propagation. Quickly closed it.

@TheRealMike A bit of a blunder. I was optimistic it would be updated but it’s still all Crane, Ippolito, ITU-R rain zones and CCIR references. Not that any are bad just quite dated.

@CorwinWright Ahh, makes sense. I was wondering where you got three times better than STRM data for free. (Environment Agency has limited area lidar data for £££)
