If you are a value manager and haven't bought Facebook at 8x EBITDA or Zoom at 13x annualized cashflow, are you a value investor at all? 🌳

Thinking about how memory is the real moat for LLMs—great for user lock-in, but increasingly bad for users as the AI app ecosystem expands. Will ChatGPT or Claude eventually offer memory portability - a kind of single sign-on for your context - or stay walled gardens so that we're further incentivized to use their apps? Maybe we’ll see a “Plaid for memory.” Not a perfect analogy, but imagine an external layer where apps could write to and read from your memory with permission. If there’s anything I want to own/control (for professional + personal use), it’s this.

Imagine building an Aussie rocket ship like Canva, then getting hit with a $3B tax bill on paper gains. No choice but to sell private shares into thin air in a no bid market. End result? Americans own your life's work. That's how fking dumb this is.

Thrilled to bring Waymo back to Silicon Valley! This is where our journey first began, it's where our HQ is, and it's home to so much of our team. We're eager to deepen our roots here and continue expanding access to @Waymo One across the Bay.
Waymo@Waymo

We’ve made millions of miles of memories over the past 15+ years, but today is special. We’re returning to where the journey began, gradually opening our doors to our first public riders in Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and parts of Sunnyvale.

First of all, I’m not the author of this proposal. Credit to @realDonaldTrump, @JDVance & @SpeakerJohnson. Second, this is a MUCH better bill that is closer to being a real continuing resolution (not an omnibus masquerading as a CR), but with support for hurricane victims & farmers, as well as a reasonable extension to the debt ceiling. Clean & simple. If Dems reject this & government shuts down, they deserve to lose bigtime in the midterms.

Just had a conversation with a tall* friend who didn't realize that I am, in fact, considered tall-ish at 5'8. She assumed I was of average female height (turns out I'm in the 95th percentile for women in the US). *She's 6'2 so I get it!

re: “Founder Mode” vs. “Manager Mode” - sometimes tech people incorrectly generalize about “business school” the way non-tech people incorrectly generalize about “startups” Nobody at GSB ever taught us to treat orgs as a black box or to avoid getting your hands dirty & micro-managing people. A lot of what we learned was specifically about how to pierce through the fog of war that happens as an org grows. People like @mleslie45 had a lot of helpful and specific advice that was applicable in scenarios like early Uber, which scaled almost exclusively with MBA GMs running business units. “shitty management” != business school.

We have trained ESM3 and we're excited to introduce EvolutionaryScale. ESM3 is a generative language model for programming biology. In experiments, we found ESM3 can simulate 500M years of evolution to generate new fluorescent proteins. Read more: evolutionaryscale.ai/blog/esm3-rele…

In 1961, you could take a helicopter from the San Francisco Ferry Building across the Bay Area in under 10 minutes. SFO Airlines soon thereafter ceased operations, and Silicon Valley has been without any real urban air mobility for nearly 40 years. That’s about to change. Excited to announce that at @flyarcher we’ve partnered with @Kilroyrealty with the goal of developing the first San Francisco Bay Area eVTOL network, anchored by a critical Sea Portal hub in South San Francisco. Our Chief Infrastructure Officer, Bryan Bernhard, and our design team led by Julien Mountousse, have been leading this collaborative effort over the last year, so we’re excited to finally share more. Here are the key points: ✈️ Archer’s San Francisco Bay Area network is anticipated to provide unprecedented connectivity across the region, allowing people to replace 1-2 hour drives with flights that take ~10-20 minutes 📍 Archer and Kilroy have identified Kilroy’s Oyster Point South San Francisco development as a critical hub in Archer’s planned Bay Area network ♻️ Kilroy and Archer are studying the development of a proposed Sea Portal, which is intended to serve as a waterfront mobility hub for eVTOL aircraft and electric ferry operations using renewable energy news.archer.com/archer-san-fra…

I took an @Uber today and for the first time was offered a NYC yellow cab. I thought good for Uber supporting the cabbies. I asked the driver about his experience with Uber and he surprised me by saying it was bad. He explained that even when the passenger agreed to pay a tip to the driver on the Uber app, the driver did not receive a tip and Uber kept the tip for itself. I said that this could not be true so he asked me to test it. When the ride finished I added a $5.00 tip. His screen showed that I paid no tip. The driver was right. In short, Uber is massively increasing its margins and profits in NYC by ripping off NYC cab drivers. I texted @dkhos Dara from Uber midday today and sent this photo of the driver’s screen. He did not respond. I like Dara, but this is really bad. I can only assume that Dara is unaware of this. Uber needs to immediately return the stolen funds with interest to the NYC taxi drivers and to other drivers in any other markets where they are doing the same and they should deeply apologize. And Uber should restate its earnings to reflect this overstatement of margins and profits. This needs to happen now. @ericadamsfornyc Mayor Adams, I am sure agrees.
