Before the 2020 election, Biden gave a speech at Gettysburg saying he decided to run for office again after the Charlottesville far-right rally in 2017. The rally was a galvanizing moment for leftists and Democrats, who campaigned and fundraised off it for years, claiming they needed power and money to stop white supremacy. Biden’s White House met with SPLC officials at least 11 times after he won, according to visitor logs.
