I'm playing with Zeal/Dash so I can view stdlib docs offline. (I've been coding on public transport recently, without a reliable data connection.) Anyone have tips for making the most of this setup? AFAICT docsets are basically HTML underneath.

TIL that Duolingo owns a taco shop called "Duo's Taqueria" where patrons are encouraged to order in Spanish! It looks quite nice actually.

@sameersismail Arthur goes down listening to Nocturne No. 20 in C♯ minor every night. I hadn't realized how widely the interpretations differ!

"interaction is an essentially negative aspect of information software" One of the greatest hot takes ever. I revisit Magic Ink all the time, and you should absolutely read it if you're serious about design: worrydream.com/MagicInk/

thread about memoria.day, an unconf geared towards nurturing a scene around memory systems - not so much even the tools, but the practices (tho also the tools) my main goal was to get a workflow going with LLM-generated flashcards & reviews—and I succeeded

got really excited about the automated anki-decks.com for generating some flashcards so I could better internalize core concepts from The Unaccountability Machine but it keeps pulling out trivia, or details from case studies that are completely irrelevant to core points

@ekzhang1 > I had seen this somewhere online, with a person showing off their tiny OS with Firecracker microVMs over public SSH. Unfortunately I don’t remember where I saw this I remember this! github.com/nuta/kerla (Thanks to shell history.)

Does anyone who follows me work at TSMC Arizona? Would love to film a tour/interview to understand what it takes to produce the most complicated things humans have ever built, and to do it at scale in the US. DMs open.

Two years now since we uninstalled our doorbell and put up the “baby sleeping” sign and zero regrets. Literally zero solicitors. I talked to an architect about removing the front door and they told me I legally can’t do that lmao. This sign is staying up forever.

A long time ago, a team I was on had an outage We temporarily patched it with a script running on an engineer’s laptop while rolling out the real fix Half an hour in, the outage was back! Pagers beeping! Panic! Someone had unknowingly closed the laptop

In all seriousness, this is the only productive mindset. If you think that something is “impossible” to do, you are very unlikely to succeed in doing it. There are even accounts in history where someone thought someone else did a thing (but they actually didn’t) and did that thing because it seemed more possible.

So far my attempts at capitalism (black friday) have involved buying things with good textures (a fluffy bathrobe, crisp new bedsheets, perhaps new pajamas)
