You are asking me to not spend a full week after release trying to improve performance on something I spent 12 months working on? Lol unfortunately that’s not a realistic request. And it’s also pretty standard in media industry. People go on press tours around the world trying to build up hype and engagement.

Welp, after a long week spent between funeral activities, moving my dad into a temporary hospice facility for a few weeks and finally busting out these taxes, it’s time to get back to finishing up Part 3. Not sure where I even left off lol. It’s several weeks since I really looked at it. Probably about 95% complete if I had to guess. But I am considering shortening it by 20 minutes or so if possible. And then releasing a longer directors cut to members or something. I think it’s current length might significantly harm performance

@JeanPhilip98499 C'est difficile de répondre. Je n'ai jamais réellement utilisé de musique "spatiale" et j'ai utilisé de nombreux artistes: Andrew applepie, broke for free, sappheiros, Scott Buckley ou Utho Riley.

@starbase_fr Idem… par contre, je préférais la musique des premiers épisodes… la qualité du montage et l’humour sont toujours là et c’est excellent. La musique fait moins spatiale… dite moi si je dis des bêtises

It's sad but at the same time somewhat reassuring for me to see that other content creators are impacted as well. My channel revenue has decreased by 60-70% between 2023 and 2025. Luckily YouTube is not my main activity. But it's frustrating to see the platform rewarding low quality/high quantity/Ai generated content vs high quality videos.

Hey Starship Addicts, Part 2 is going to be delayed by about a week. The episode is completely finished and ready to release… but YouTube ad revenue has taken a major hit recently as advertiser focus shifts heavily toward global conflict coverage. Originally I planned to release this episode without a sponsor because they weren’t able to keep up with the pace we were moving. Unfortunately that’s no longer realistic given the level of time investment involved from multiple people behind the scenes. Despite viewership performing almost exactly the same as the previous episode, ad revenue has dropped by nearly 60%. A year ago I probably wouldn’t have said anything about this. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that YouTube’s ecosystem is rapidly shifting toward high-volume AI-generated content. If that trend continues, genuinely human-made content will become harder and harder to sustain. Many of your favorite creators — especially those producing deeply researched, time-intensive work — may simply disappear because the economics stop making sense. And I’m pretty sure I’m speaking for a majority of the Team Space community when I say that. For now, we’re going to keep doing what we do for as long as we possibly can. Because as long as there are people who still care about real research, real engineering, and real storytelling… this channel will keep pushing forward. Thanks for sticking with us.

@RyanHansenSpace @YouTubeCreators Sadly YouTube doesn't want/care about quality. They want quantity, and a lot of it, to place more ads.

To add more context to this, I received an email from @YouTubeCreators on February 19th saying that my YouTube channel has fallen below the threshold for monetization and I have 30 days to meet the requirements or I will be demonetized and have to go through the application process again if I meet the requirements in the future. At that point in time, I was splitting all my free time 80% on the 1:50 3D printed OLM documentation (which I spent most of 2025 finalizing the design for) and 20% on my next Starship film. This update from YouTube caused me to abruptly pause all work on those projects and quickly form a plan to try and prevent my YouTube from being demonetized since I absolutely cannot release my Starship film without monetization (I've already spent thousands on hardware). I needed to increase my watch hours above the required threshold so I started work on 2 concurrent projects to try and accomplish that goal. I put out my most recent video with archived animations of the Pad 1 OLM which did okay and did increase my watch hours above the required threshold but the watch hours are still falling due to the performance of older videos around this time last year and will likely fall under the required threshold again within a week. The unreleased project I'm working on currently is pretty cool but very likely will not be rendered and uploaded in time before the review occurs in 10 days. YouTube suggests that I "just video something" and upload it but it's not that simple because of the level of quality I strive to achieve and nearly every project I've ever done has taken well over a month from start to finish because I'm literally creating every pixel in every frame of video. So it would be nice if YouTube maybe gave earlier warnings and understood that some creators cannot come up with quality content within 30 days.
