those who are building agents for open endedness in scientific research, I'm curious about how you're building things out. I have settled on a pretty decent pipeline for myself, but would be happy to talk and share notes! hope the algo reaches you

I'm building my own platform for this right now. my work is at the intersection of building AI/ML in the space and earth sciences, so naturally I thought why not make the science part agentic as well. hardest part right now is getting compute cost for frontier models. OSS models only go so far and are generally slower with my hardware, but make open endedness feasible. other companies are forming around AI co-scientists on a more robust scale. @SakanaAILabs in particular is one I am very excited about

I want to see the success of coding agents replicated in research and science

@BaffledCentrist @sircalebhammer I love his interviews. they're so calming I feel like my brain can process the actual information from the interview more. can think deeply about what I resonate with also your handle says you're a centrist. doesn't that mean you're also naturally inclined to see both sides lol

What did he do? I feel like the internet just decides to hate someone after they are popular long enough, for no reason.

@ripecortex @sircalebhammer that's interesting, I feel like he is one of the most genuine people I listen to. all of his friends, as well as people I personally know who have spent a decent amount of time with him, all have nothing but good things to say about him. could be wrong though

@thisisnotmark_ @sircalebhammer Authenticity is one of the strongest signals Americans look for and identify with. Lex never came off as actually showing that, so regardless of all your points he’s like an automatic disgust response trigger due to it

how lucky I am to have had my genetic and environmental makeup give me the affinity of loving knowledge and the pursuit of knowledge for its own inherent sake

in my opinion, the goal is to focus everything you have into wiring yourself to derive joy from the process and not the outcome. you have to gaslight yourself into believing the feeling of frustration and the act of doing the thing you need to do is the best part of your day. the frustration you feel trying to learn something new, the act of running vs. the runner’s high after, etc. this may be incredibly hard for some people (me included) so you have to make the mental switch to spend all of your willpower and energy into fixing those thoughts and NOT into actually just doing the thing, but loving it once you successfully do this, everything else takes care of itself. you will not be driven by externally focused ambition, but for the love of the game, which is MUCH more powerful. and at the same time you won’t be as tied to outcomes, because you’d still be there grinding. this is how anyone who has achieved mastery and excellence thinks. this is why those who have more money, success, fame then most people in history, keep going. it takes a while, but less energy overall vs. forcing yourself to do the thing without deriving pleasure from it for the rest of your life, so ultimately it’s one of the most fruitful mindset shifts you can do for yourself

So how do you stay ambitious but also internally zen

No one aura farms like NASA.
