@hartgoat Curious. What is your position when AI takes over most of these jobs, especially on the lower end. Why is this the hill to die on when it won't be standing in a couple of years?

This is such an elitist take. Years ago I worked 16 hour days and you know where that got me? It got me let go so they could replace me with someone they could pay far less than me. In less than a year every American at the job who did in fact work 80 hour weeks were replaced by a whole group from Bangladesh

Maybe this is a helpful clarification: I am referring to bringing in via legal immigration the top ~0.1% of engineering talent as being essential for America to keep winning. This is like bringing in the Jokic’s or Wemby’s of the world to help your whole team (which is mostly Americans!) win the NBA. Thinking of America as a pro sports team that has been winning for a long time and wants to keep winning is the right mental construct.

Increase base pay to $100k, give a green card to everyone after 5 years on H1B.
Wage suppression would continue if there is no pathway for green card from H1B.

The strange part about the recent hate in the USA is that the Indian American community is actually a model minority. The highest per capita taxes, well assimilated, built more than 90 unicorns, created plenty of jobs. Most of them embrace American ways and American values.
That's in contrast to, say, Canada - which did get in a lot of scamsters and Khalistani trouble makers - many of whom are not well assimilated. And many of whom make little effort to fit in.
Hence it is possible that the "anti Indian immigrant" storm could blow over in the USA faster than in Canada. And if it doesn't, then there is something deeper at play.

Do you support raising immigration country caps?

Now that Elon, Vivek and others have come across the Woke Right, it's helpful to once again lay out the basics.
The Woke Right is a section of the Right which, like the Woke Left, believes in racism for the "right" reasons, has a conspiracy about how the world is systematically and institutionally against them and happily uses the tactics of mobbing, cancellation and other woke tactics to attack their opponents. They don't believe in discussing views and ideas, only in winning.
It's basically like BLM for white people.

Your need for a job is second to the need of a company to be and remain globally competitive. Hence, wage pressure is not solely the result of H1B, it is a function of globalization.

Remove clauses on imported labor. Don't have them on a leash. And have a 1.5x premium on payroll for any imported labor.

@MikhailaFuller H1-B visas allow companies to import labor that will accept lower initial wages AND who aren't free to change jobs should better opportunities arise.
It's not about qualifications. It's the artificial corporate cost discount that's the problem.
