@Evilkatto @SketchesbyBoze Just this weekend, I've built a (rather messy) PHP script to archive all the posts I've ever made on social media to a single filterable web page, with local storage. It even has an aggregated RSS feed.

The promise of the early web was that all the world’s knowledge would be preserved and accessible. In the past several years we’ve seen attempts to destroy every major hub of the knowledge-based internet. The “information super-highway” is a dream that is nearly dead.

Just came across someone on Reddit who thought Caesar’s “let the die be cast” was referring to the process of pouring molten metal into a mould. Really an incredible misinterpretation

@sm @clairevo Do the people you hire write so poorly that AI makes a positive qualitative difference? And what I'm actually curious about, do you have measurements about that?

@clairevo Depends on the role. I have folks whose role is talking to customers all day. I expect them to use AI on the edges (help write a better email) but otherwise they are spending time on human connection.

Daily reminder that the House of Hapsburg had no legal right to abolish the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, which means that by process of elimination the only country to never renounce its membership, Liechtenstein, could assemble the seven Electors, crown a new Holy Roman Emperor, and lay claim to the entirety of the Holy Roman Empire's territory.

@KareemRifai @mehdirhasan And blocking the Hormuz strait *is* against international law. It's an effective move, and it is a response against an also-illegal attack, but that doesn't make it tenable in the long term.

@mehdirhasan Iran quite literally sent trainers to Russia to show them how to use Iranian drones to kill Ukrainian civilians. Zelensky made a Twitter post (which didn't even express support for attacking Iran).

It's astonishing that you, a world leader who many respected for standing up to an illegal attack on your country, now support an illegal attack on another country. It completely kills your credibility. Right now. Iran is Ukraine. You may not like to hear that but that is a fact
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

It is unfortunate that the UN Security Council has once again failed to demonstrate effectiveness and act decisively in the face of such a global threat as the Iranian regime's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. No one should be allowed to block such globally significant sea lanes or undermine the security of dozens of nations through terrorist attacks against the freedom of navigation. We faced a similar challenge in the Black Sea when the Russians attempted to block our ports and civilian shipping—Russia was trying to suffocate our economy. And we found a way to solve that problem through decisive action, not inaction. Now, we see a similar problem on a global scale. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open to all vessels that sustain vital economy lifelines and maintain normal international trade. Countries in the region have spoken clearly on this, and we support the aspirations of the people of the Middle East and the Gulf for peace. Peace and security in this region directly impact stability, market predictability, and the cost of living in every single country. Such problems and this war must not be prolonged. The world needs a functional UNSC that acts more decisively to resolve acute security challenges of global magnitude.

The math Italy just handed Netflix is terrifying for every subscription company on Earth. 5.4 million Italian subscribers. Up to €500 per Premium user, €250 per Standard user. Netflix launched in Italy at €11.99/month in 2015 and hiked four times to €19.99 by 2024. The court said every single increase was illegal because the contract never stated a justified reason for any of them. The total refund exposure is somewhere in the hundreds of millions of euros. For a single country with ~2% of Netflix's 325 million global subscribers. Here's what nobody is pricing in: Germany and Spain have already filed identical challenges using the same EU Directive from 1993. Berlin and Cologne courts already ruled that generic price-change clauses are void. Italy just gave every consumer group in Europe a finished legal template. Netflix hiked prices globally on March 26. Six days later, this ruling dropped. The company is now simultaneously raising prices worldwide while a court in its fourth-largest European market ordered it to roll prices back to 2015 levels. The real exposure here isn't Italy. Netflix can absorb hundreds of millions. The real exposure is the legal principle: telling customers "we're raising your price, you can cancel if you don't like it" is not consent under EU law. That logic applies to every subscription service operating in Europe. Every SaaS company. Every streaming platform. Every telecom. The freedom to cancel is not the freedom to agree. That one sentence just repriced the entire European subscription economy.
