Looking at the board agenda, this caught my eye: state funds (01) are being used to pay a company to recruit teachers from overseas on visas. A few non-magnet schools do this - there are probably more than I know of.

@FixingEducation I’d love $115K, lol. I ran the numbers. A $115K teacher salary in California ends up closer to a $55K to $65K lifestyle when compared to NC after costs are factored in. So…I am not living in a mansion anytime soon! Btw, NC is where I live.

Imagine if every high school student was given a retirement account on their first job instead of SSI. They could all see their investments and deductions over their lifetime and use financial skills (obtained from high school courses) to manage their contributions. It’s not perfect but better than what the government does with it.

School: where you learn mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell but never learn how to power your own bank account.

@educator4ever36 That’s been a nightmare for counselors recently. Students don’t know how to advocate for themselves. They’ve been used to having their hands held with grades.

Dual enrollment participation should require set proficiencies in the content of the courses before being allowed to enroll. It’s really that simple.

@TerenceEveritt Leandro law suit was on life support for 20+ years because it was a money grab. With our state already in major debt...why anyone thinks there is extra money is beyond me. Plus, looks like Robb Leandro got a solid education. The "Leandro Mo Money" mantra is dead.
