My roommate convinced me to watch the Daytona 500 (NASCAR race) today and in the 2 hours of half dead time involved with watching NASCAR I wrote a short post. It would be nice if you went to read it :) (link in reply because deboost)

what do you think society taking the red pill means? forget the meme for a second, go back to the original reference. painful knowledge, or ignorant bliss?

Like genuinely has nobody learned anything of the 2016-present political revolution, which can broadly be boiled down to “the systems of society assumed people to be ignorant inert morons but everyone Got Wise and now the systems stopped working”

Do these trials actually ever find significant placebo finding And also presumably if they do have a finding it’s pretty consistent. Can we not just construct a synthetic placebo? My intuition is that this is only a problem if we allow it to be although I guess I could be wrong
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil

This is not good: People have learned that GLP-1s are really effective, so if they're not losing weight, they know they're in the placebo group. So these people getting placebos are getting mad and leaving the trials.

@humantransit Eh. It’s a reason, but it’s a very small reason. There are not many programs that we keep around just in case we end up in a war with the middle east outside of missile programs and the strategic oil reserves

@kingofthecoastt You’ve got to be careful about these statistics though bc a lot of developing country skyscrapers do not provide the aforementioned agglomeration effects and the height itself is the amenity. The Burj Khalifa is so disaglomerated it isn’t on the sewer network

> all individuals have a reasonable right to privacy no they don’t. we had a fight about this in the court of public opinion circa 2003-2015 and privacy lost
Dr. Javi Rodríguez@Javiplatano

@NewsWire_US Dead on arrival, all individuals have a reasonable right to privacy. The government identifying these people with out their consent for public consumption with no public interest or good is literally the antithesis of the right to privacy. Republicans continue to be clowns.

Look in an exercise setting I can a mile in a like 6 minutes but in my real life I am simply not going to walk a 40 minute round trip and wisely most americans also refuse to. You are not going live a mile from your train station and not drive there I’m so sorry
vivian@vivian39_

@MenaB719 you can walk up to a mile. also metro, bus, bike. i don't struggle with it.

I’m sure the urbanists would have preferred fewer freeways at any level of freeways but Phoenix comes in at #39 of the top 50 “urbanized areas” (idk why but fhwa reports urbanized areas not msas) Here it is against cities of similar size with lots of highways; Denver and MSP. The network of highways is just relatively not very dense in Phoenix because Phoenix wasnt very important when most highways were built. As a consequence of its mix of road types the average trip is slower because the average road is slower. There are lots of trips which in Phoenix are a long slog along an arterial, where the equivalent in most major urban areas would be a smaller expressway, a thing which in Phoenix basically doesnt exist because cost disease mandated large arterials instead

So many tweets so annoying about this; the difference between 1, 2 or 3 lane roads is huge, and there are surely roads that logistically benefit from both the extra space and 50% increase in capacity The one more lane thing doesn’t work when like LA your road is already 7 lanes

The widening of I-95 near the Savannah River will improve travel for thousands of drivers each day while supporting the continued growth of the Port of Savannah—one of the fastest-growing ports in the nation. A smarter, safer corridor is on the way. bit.ly/4ux3vjW

"but what about emergency vehicles" is the last refuge of the anti-bike-lane argument and it's wrong every single time. fire trucks can navigate bike lanes. ambulances can navigate bike lanes. you know what actually blocks emergency vehicles? your double-parked f-150
