2/2 .@robertbigbags The RN had sunk almost all Hitler's destroyers at Narvik, so making a seaborne invasion of Britain even less likely than it had always been. Sealion was never seriously planned or prepared.
Robert Smith@Robertbigbags

@ClarkeMicah @DrChrisParry Actually the real danger to Britain ended when the RAF defeated the Luftwaffe in summer 1940, it gave us the winter of 40/41 to rearm and more importantly launch enough ships to counter any threat in the channel. Ref Churchill: "The Second World War" vol 2

"We're using Iran's oil against Iran." From the same Don Tzu playbook as: "We'll close the Strait too, to strangle Iran."
Rapid Response 47@RapidResponse47

.@SecScottBessent: In the coming days, we may unsanction the Iranian oil that's on the water. It's about 140 million barrels, so depending how you count it, that's 10 days to 2 weeks of supply, that the Iranians had been pushing out, that would have all gone to China. In essence, we'd be using the Iranian barrels against the Iranians to keep the price down for the next 10 or 14 days, as we continue this campaign. So, we have lots of levers.

‘Judeo-Christian values’ is such a tell. Who, in Britain, has ever casually dropped ‘Judeo-Christian values’ into any conversation *ever*? This is Farage channeling Bannon. It’s MAGA. Dressing it up as English nationalism is pure pantomime. They’ll have Mother Goose next
Nigel Farage MP@Nigel_Farage

What we witnessed in London at the historic Trafalgar Square, in a country built on Judeo-Christian values, was a group of people attempting dominance over our capital city and our culture. We are not going to surrender everything that was built over centuries and defended at great cost in two world wars for us to be a free, independent nation. The British people will not put up with this any longer — simple as.

The idea that legalising abortion until birth is a sign of moral sickness is obviously true, but it's only a small part of the picture. To really understand what's happening to our moral compasses, you need to consider the following: A person hears about babies being killed on October 7th and declares it to be the ultimate evil, absolutely barbaric and demonic. Then they hear about babies being bombed to death in Palestine and they start running about waving an Israeli flag, cheering for the government that slaughtered those babies, suggesting that the Palestinian babies' murders are justified by the Israeli ones. Then they hear that the UK government has legalised abortion until birth, and they call it abhorrent and sickening, declaring once again that there can never be any excuse for killing babies. A different person hears about babies being killed on October 7th and suggests it might be justified because of how Israel has treated Palestinians for decades. Then they hear about the babies killed in Palestine and declare it to be an inexcusable evil beyond comprehension. Then they hear that the UK government has legalised abortion until birth and they jump for joy at the idea of more baby killing. At the exact moment that law passes, they are also telling everyone they've got to lock down again because precious little babies are in danger of dying from Meningitis, and we must always do whatever we can to prevent the deaths of babies. That's the true state of our collective moral schizophrenia. "But Bob, some of the murdered baby stories were fake. And the meningitis scare is just another scam." Undoubtedly. But that makes no difference whatsoever to the moral flip-flopping that these stories, real or fake, are designed to induce.

Understand this about the Saudi military: 1) It is overwhelmingly staffed by foreigners (mostly Pakis), 2) It has FAILED to achieve its strategic aims in Yemen after a decade of blasting the place apart. 3) It is primarily meant for a) limited counterterrorism and b) internal policing mission sets. AND LET US NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE OVERWHELMING UNWILLINGNESS OF SAUDIS TO GO TO WAR/STRUGGLE AGAINST THE ODDS THEY ARE FACING WITH IRAN. In other words, if Trump is expecting the Saudi military to have his back, he's even more delusional than I believed.

Nobody's talking about Turkey They should be Iran supplies 15% of Turkey's gas demand via the South Pars pipeline. The latest strikes just put that supply in serious risk Turkey now needs to replace it with LNG. The same LNG that Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China are all desperately scrambling for. The same LNG that flows through a strait that's effectively closed. Every strike creates a new buyer in an already broken market. The LNG scramble just got a new contestant 🇹🇷 And Turkey is not a small economy. $1.5T GDP. NATO member. Sitting between Europe and the Middle East. An energy-stressed Turkey is a geopolitical wildcard nobody needs right now♟️

@ripplebrain @ArmchairW US Navy needs to shoot the hostage and mine the rest of it. Deny Iran the hostage, save the petrodollar, dry up Iranian payrolls, get China to lean on Iran. It’ll will be a temporary global tax, but the sooner Iran’s choked the sooner they negotiate.

If the Iranians have already begun to mine the strait south of Larak Island and are now forcing traffic through the even smaller ~5mi strait between Larak and Qeshm Island, I don't see how that's not checkmate. It's impossible to imagine a scenario where they can't maintain fire control over such a narrow passage with drones.

Three tankers have transited the Strait of Hormuz in the past several hours, each navigating deep INTO Iranian waters sailing around the north side of Larak island, Iran well outside of the standard channel. This likely indicates some level of coordination with Iran for safe passage. It may also indicate that some hazard exists within the usual shipping channel. h/t: @TankerTrackers @_MartinKelly_

Did you know that a collective noun used to describe a group of bishops is ‘A Blessing of Bishops’? Yet here are the bishops of Gloucester, Oxford, Winchester and Norwich who have indicated that they aren’t showing up to vote against abortion to birth tonight. Apparently ‘they have other diary commitments’.🙄 Should we change the collective noun for our Bishops to an ‘Absence of Bishops’, or perhaps a ‘Disappointment of Bishops’? They’re certainly no blessing!
