@hobbyinvestor25 @NickNelsonMN No other sport has this problem. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow are all in small markets. Same with SGA, Giannis, Jokic, Cunningham. Any MLB equivalent of these guys would likely have left because they wouldn’t be paid by cheap small market owners.

@NickNelsonMN Lmao… this is la la land man… STAR players will not go to a dog shit team in favor of a few more million in contract dollars, You’re thinking of contracts only… these players make lots of money outside of their contracts… going to a dog shit team hurts their marketability

Point that gets missed in the MLB payroll parity discussion is that it’s not just about competitiveness. It’s about distribution of star players. People don’t just watch to see wins. They watch to see the biggest names in action – currently so concentrated in large markets.

@TJStats Most owners suck but that’s not going to change. Cap and floor is necessary because of it.

If MLB owners cared primarily about the greater good of the sport, they would open their books and not threaten a lockout over a salary cap. A cap is not the only solution to solve payroll disparity, but it is one that limits a player’s earning potential. That’s why they want it.
Marcus Whitman@TFG_Football

Flaming Hot Take: MLB Owners are pushing for a salary cap because it'd be good for their league, bring in more fans, and every other league that wants to be taken seriously has one, and it is long overdue. Not because they are corrupt billionaires.

@TigersJUK The NFL is doing just fine with that.

I keep seeing people say parity is what will make baseball grow & I think it would be the worst thing for it. Every team with a similar payroll, all hovering around .500 all year, Dbacks/Guardians World Series matchups, no underdogs… Big iconic franchises who you hope to topple is good for the sport…

@TJStats Because they drafted Brady and Mahomes and have all time coaches. There’s no institutional advantage.

Addressing this: I was wrong, and the replies helped me understand that NFL parity is in a good spot Watching the Patriots and Chiefs make it to multiple Super Bowls in a row doesn't feel like an even playing field, but the churning of playoff teams shows otherwise
Thomas Nestico@TJStats

@dennisfine12 I am not disagreeing that a cap could potentially increase parity. It could also harm it (NFL is a pretty glaring example)

@jowole1216 Ortiz had .953 OPS at AAA last year and had great underlying numbers. It was completely pointless.

@NatsSource Depth. Remember, even the most optimistic farm-system projections didn’t have Morales, Ortiz, King, etc. all breaking out in one season.

Genuinely what was the point of acquiring Vivas. What need did he meet that was not already in house. What is the possible justification.

Abimelec Ortiz walkoff 3 run bomb🔥🔥Has been tearing the absolute cover off the ball last few weeks, OPS up to .837 on the season. Him and YoYo are going toe to toe fighting for a callup right now
