@varricsbianca I don't think it would be 500 million, but the cost would be absurd. After Concord I doubt Sony has it in them to toss that much at a company again for a game and a studio that needs major restructuring. However for an IP as big as Destiny, it's possible. But only barely..

Lots of folks unsure why making a Destiny 3 would cost upwards of $500 million. Salaries, friends. People make the game and you have to pay people for their work, and the area in and around Seattle, where Bungie is located, is one of the most expensive in North America.

@redacted6827 @PlumbGecko_2 As for Destiny being a financial liability, it still had steady - albeit not a lot - income to support the company even a little. If more attention was given to the struggles and issues being discussed, I'm sure it could have had a resurgence on the scale of something like ff14

@redacted6827 @PlumbGecko_2 It's misguided anger. I agree that if Marathon doesn't get support then that's it for Bungie and I personally think it's a good game with A LOT of promise. However if it gets that support, it vindicates sony's decision. If it doesn't, Bungie is cooked. There's no clear path atm.

What sucks here is if you switch to Marathon all it does is vindicate Sony canning Destiny, kinda like what happened with Titanfall. But if you don't support it, Bungie might get canned itself due to it going to be it's sole money maker soon, like D2 used to be

This right here from @Aztecross is honestly the only way you send a message to the large companies that will literally only look at a bottom line. Vote with your wallet. Disregard sponsorships and do what you feel is right for you. I completely agree with cross, if there’s no D3 then there’s nothing bungie can make that will make me wanna play another bungie game.

@redacted6827 @PlumbGecko_2 For reference I want a D3, I would do whatever I could for it to exist. But knowing how major corporations think it's obvious what their decision would be.

@redacted6827 @PlumbGecko_2 Because rather than spend hundreds of millions on developing D3, in their eyes it's better for them to invest in a game in it's infancy that they don't need to spend that much money on. Think like a business which is what they are, you'll come to the same conclusion.

This will be a trend for ever season in Marathon. As the bulk of players reach end game. More will take a break until the next wipe. Who thought it was a great idea to cancel Destiny 2? Both games could supplement each other. But yet... now one game is jealous of the other. And ine game is in fear of the other's wrath.

@DeezyDevs Taking the two second clip out of context is crazy. It's a hypothetical scenario that if it comes to taking that drastic of a move to save a game he and his community love, he'll do it. He literally says the exact same thing about wanting marathon to thrive in the video.

Thee most braindead take. Prior to Marathon's launch he was saying he wants Marathon to be successful so Destiny can thrive. Even told ppl to stop hating bc if Marathon fails so does Destiny. Now he's advocating for his friends at Bungie to lose their jobs bc C suits killed D2
Dusty@Dusty23XI

Cannot believe @Aztecross went here but man…Destiny has an incredible community willing to fight. Guardians really do make their own fate. #WeWantDestiny3

@frogpitgaming I expected D2 to finalize after The Final Shape and a D3 to come into play but that wasn't the case. Though considering the feedback I would've hoped they announced some sort of plan to continue the series instead of just saying "it's over" and leaving the story dead as it is.

@frogpitgaming 3 years worth of content I paid for when the game released in 2017 and the dlc in 2018 was removed from the game. They started a new saga and were actively working on a new dlc before abruptly finding out at the same time as us, the player base, that the game was done. Cont.

D2 is not even getting shut down. It's just not getting any more content after the 9th. It is, allegedly, getting almost all of the fixes the community has wanted and then being left in a content complete state. That means this entire online tantrum is not because people can't access their favorite game anymore. It's because they feel entitled to more than 11 years of content updates and indefinite access to their content complete game.

@Slubmeow @MikeMumbelz @Pirat_Nation Never got Xivu Arath's story, you know, one of the three hive gods? Savathun was still an enemy we had to kill because she was in no way an ally after The Final Shape. Started an entire new saga after the original to move deeper into the lore, etc. etc. You're the goofy ass here

Many Bungie devs reportedly had no idea Destiny 2 was about to stop receiving future updates. According to several reports, many employees were still actively working on new content when the announcement was made public, and most of the studio learned of it at the same time as players. The reports claim Bungie leadership had already decided internally to end active development earlier this year, while some teams continued building future Destiny 2 content. Bungie confirmed that Destiny 2 will remain online and playable after its final major update in June 2026, but new live-service development for the game is ending after almost 10 years. They will focus in Marathon, a game that lost almost all its players and is now even more hated by Bungie fans. The game has its days counted.

@AceOClubs81 @Stella_V69 @GamesRadar Leadership had them in a chokehold the entire second half of development after Pete Parsons inflated the company's value with "incubation projects" that didn't work out besides marathon (which is limping right now). Not dogging on marathon, good game. But that's the truth.

@Slubmeow @MikeMumbelz @Pirat_Nation Story isn't over by a longshot. If y believe that then you haven't paid attention to any of the stuff building in the background or read a single lore entry at all. the minimum you need to do is look at flavour text for armour and weapons to see this.

@Dagxtor @Vortex12314 @Cynnthetic @Dexerto There's still so much more story to the game that we haven't gotten and new plotlines they've set up but had no chance to develop. The Final Shape was an end to a saga, not the game entirely.

@OnlyAnApple @Vortex12314 @Cynnthetic @Dexerto That expansion literally closed the entire storyline of D1 and D2, the big bad was defeated, we had an ending to everything. People were already tired of Destiny 2 and wanted to leave but that ending was their anchor to keep playing. It's Avengers Endgame again.
