New preprint from @MaraShermanLab @MSKCancerCenter Stromal KITL/SCF promotes pancreas tissue homeostasis and restrains tumor progression biorxiv.org/content/10.110… This study examines what factor(s) in the normal pancreatic mesenchyme might be lost in the process of multistep #PancreaticCancer pathogenesis. One candidate that emerges is KIT ligand or stem cell factor (SCF) & genetic disruption of mesenchymal KITL/SCF in the non-neoplastic pancreas accelerates pancreatic tumorigenesis. Important as we try to identify not just drivers of exocrine neoplasia, but host barriers that impede this process.
