@fimacnab1 @RoyLilley "Planning to do this process well" - for whom? For their practice? To minimise escalation? Or to rectify the wrongs they have enacted? I suspect that complaints depts are all about mitigation for the organisation not restitution for the pt. Hx
English

@ReHumanising @RoyLilley I’m not certain that’s a fair assessment of your GP surgery! Not all complaints are valid but they all need looking into fairly and properly. It means that your surgery are planning to do this process well, so minor complaints don’t become bigger
English

Trusts are very adept at handing complaints. They’ve learned, saying sorry is not the same as admitting liability. myemail.constantcontact.com/I-don-t.html?s…
English

@fimacnab1 @RoyLilley My comment was underpinned by more information than can be fitted into a tweet. IME pt complaints are rarely one off experiences - they come after a litany of poor treatment/ behaviour & are evidence of desperate ppl seeking resolution after often considerable injustice. Hx

Death by arrogance. Patients are prisoners to cult-like brainwashing. To survive in a medical career, you have to capitulate to the cult. Survival of the Dr = sacrifice of the patient. NHS is a communist state. No choice, no chance, no alternative. Hx
English

Fantastic graphic. My #GPSurgery use this as their policy. Patients are marginalised, belittled & judged. Access is almost impossible. When did GPs become the victims? Why should patients serve them? When there is no alternative, what can we do? This has to change. Hx

“Hard to reach” “Disengaged” “Being difficult” “Not responding” Make sure you check it’s not “We are inaccessible” “We are not communicating right” “The service is too complex” “Our resources are not universal” What we in #NHS find “easy” is not the same for everyone we serve
English

@Sonia_Sparkles @svig2 This could be the mission statement and policy plan for my #GPSurgery. These actions are not inadvertent there, they are deliberate. Its shameful. It excludes, denigrates, judges and belittles. Hx

Mum wants a change in the law; for families, by right, to have a second opinion. She wants 'Martha's Law'.
The useless GMC states that all doctors must;
‘... respect the patient’s right to seek a second opinion’.
Fat lot of good that did. myemail.constantcontact.com/I-don-t.html?s…

There are no historic lessons to learn here. These were all abject failures to do the right thing at the time. Everyone knew what they were doing.
Are they all still working in the NHS? Do you think they should be?
I don’t. myemail.constantcontact.com/I-don-t.html?s…

I did my last ATLS Instructor course in Eastbourne this week with my blog partner @lifeinedcom and the outstanding @atlseastbourne faculty. Another 16 instructors join the family. Huge thanks to all at Eastbourne, The best ATLS course in the UK. Keep on, you amazing people. Hx

At this time of year, as exams threaten to swamp our young people, & we do our best to help, look out for the sponges, those who go the extra mile, who carry some of the weight. Hx
English

However I still miss my incredible colleagues including those at @atlseastbourne @NHSLTLC and the amazing clinicians I worked with over three decades. Politics may erode our workplace practices but great people are always with us. Hx

Just over 2 years since my dog died & I realised my Med Ed career had too. Today I have a new career, & how fulfilled I feel. The cycle of nature: birth, life, death, rebirth is magical. If you're in a rut, break free. I did & haven't looked back. Hx

@MarkBagnallSurg @MariaPrayle @JonnyHolley @RCSnews Just read thru the thread. Sad that people don't realise, can't work out that there are wider pressures at play in the UK. Other countries have different £ systems. Can't compare. But seems to me sheep and goats are well sorted! Thanks to all who do ATLS. Hx
English

@MarkBagnallSurg @MariaPrayle @JonnyHolley @RCSnews Well said Mark. The personal investment is so true. Your teaching commitment has (partially) made you the person you are today. Having helped develop 2,000 ATLS instructors, I know those who can teach are very special indeed. Hx

@JonnyHolley Because it shows you look outwards not inwards, teaching builds job satisfaction, helps you get a job in the future, gives you other options as you build new skills.
Your value to a department is defined by the stuff you do beyond just the clinical work.
