John I love talking history with you, but I have to say I think you're off on this one. MacArthur was an incompetent, egomaniacal blowhard whose faults both personal and professional vastly outweighed any service he provided to the nation as a military officer. He was in many ways what Montgomery was to the British.

Your hate of MacArthur was engineered. History is written by the victors and MacArthur lost Korea and lost the fight for victory. The Navy hated him because he was smart and effective. His men in WW1 loved MAC but, it’s true many of his men in WW2 hated him. But there hate was because of conditions largely beyond his control and because he was ruthless in his standards. Standards he enforced to keep them alive. Truth is MAC got the worst and most dangerous Army assignment in the war. He was abandoned early on then under supplied in a campaign against a ruthless foe in horrible terrain. YET he had among the best enemy to allied causality rates in the war. Many of his men hated him because they could not see the bigger picture and did not know that his ruthless discipline was necessary to keep them alive. Yes he was bombastic. Yes he had a giant ego. Yes he bucked orders from DC. Yes he did ridiculous things to court the press. Yes he threatened his chain of command. Yes he stood up against not one but two presidents. WHY? Why did he seek glory and fame in the press? Why did he “live like a king” while his men suffered brutal agony? He did it people because he was fighting three wars at once. The Western Pacific campaign. The restoration of America’s colony. A war for supplies and logistics. He needed fame. He needed glory. He needed triumph. He neded all those things because he needed DC to give him supplies. He was in a propaganda war against his own nation,.. and he was willing to play the fool to get his men the ammunition ships they needed to put artillery rounds, NOT BODIES, on enemy fortifications. And the Navy resented him for it. And the Navy, more than any other branch, wrote the history of WW2. MAC deserves our undying appreciation. Yet most Americans treat his memory like a disposable fast food wrapper. And the safetyist, the weaklings, the swamp creatures who want Generals and Admirals to bow to bureaucrats fan the Navy’s bad takes on poor old MacArthur. He deserves better.

OTD in 1951, General Douglas MacArthur was relieved as Supreme Commander Allied Powers in Asia by President Truman. Since MacArthur's firing, the main lesson learned by Western military leaders was 'stay in your lane' & be a "Yes Man"

Here’s the non-goal in the 88’. My only guess is the ref deemed Damus offside and interfering with playing. Other than that? I got absolutely nothing.

@TVietor08 Leave it to an Obama Bro to not know what a treaty is (and isn’t).

This is the dumbest of many dumb talking points. Treaties expire so you renegotiate. That’s diplomacy. Arms control agreements with Russia were iterative & renegotiated many times. The alternative is what’s happening now—a catastrophic war pushed by chickenhawks neocons like Mark
Mark Dubowitz@mdubowitz

Reminder that under Obama’s Iran deal Iran would be on a pathway by 2031 to have nuclear-armed ICBMs, 10,000 ballistic missiles, a Chinese- and Russian-built military, a million attack drones, a fully operational terror network, and a trillion dollars to harden its economy.

@EFF Notice how their new executive director is active on Blue Sky and not X. Has nothing to do with “online rights”. It’s her making the company align with her political views.

I say it again and again...given the new geopolitical and economic realities, the internal weakness of the EU itself, the future is the United Confederation of Germania with Germany, Netherlands and Austria as nucleus. 112 million people with an economic power of 7.3 trillion USD (PPP: 8.6 trillion USD), the high tech and logistics core of Europe. These 3 countries already today have the closest partnership within the EU due to similar cultural and fiscal values. This Confederation could be operational in the shortest time. Can the Swiss, Czech, Slovenes, and Danes join? in principle yes, if they want to. Belgium only Flanders.

@RepMariaSalazar Nope. This is amnesty, just like we did back in ‘87. We’re not falling for that again no matter how you dress it up with words you apparently don’t understand.

There’s a fundamental misconception about what “amnesty” really means. Amnesty is looking the other way: no consequences, no accountability, just more chaos. That’s the system we’ve had for decades. The Dignity Act ends it with enforcement, accountability, real penalties, and ZERO tolerance for criminals. That’s not amnesty. That’s law and order!
