What you call 'AI Doomerism' is just the recognition that building machine intelligences much smarter, faster, and more powerful than humans, and that we can't understand, control, or align, is a reckless idea. That's it. It's not about Left versus Right. It's about human versus anti-human. It's about protecting our kids versus letting them become serfs in an AI-dominated economy that neither citizens nor governments nor the AI companies themselves can control.

@HollywoodHandle Reminds me of Captain Marvel nearly killing this guy then stealing his motorcycle -- real 'heroic'.

@doctor_chain Yes. It's mentally exhausting. The main reason AI cinema is so much harder currently is because the models are still crude. It's like trying to make a Swiss watch with a hammer. The only thing really 'hard' about physical production is raising the money.

@TomLoweCinema It requires supreme levels of patience and editing skills. Not to mention the skills every director and writer needs, the ability to convey a coherent story from brain to screen. And to make something good, every method requires the ability to translate emotion into video.

Anyone who thinks physical cinema production is harder than AI cinema production either: 1) Does not have significant experience in phyiscal production 2) Does not have significant experience in AI production AI cinema is much, MUCH harder currently.

@TomLoweCinema The word "art" literally means the process of creating. That's why this is called "AI art". You didn't do any work and you produced no art. You prompted a machine and the machine did the work.

@MittRomney Mitt wants to make sure AI weapons, creating pathogens, surveillance and causing mass unemployment remain under the strict, exclusive control of the USA government.

@doctor_chain Yeah many of the people throwing shade are employed in film production. They have skin in the game. They are very misguided.

@TomLoweCinema "Artists", as they coin themselves, have always been insecure messes. Now this "new thing" they believe threatens their status, so they attack.

I'm genuinely surprised by the disdainful backlash this music video received on Instagram because I used AI. It seems like the AI haters are multiplying like a zombie army. I could never understand caring more about the process of art creation rather than the merits of the art itself. This is a totally foreign way of thinking for me.

"Backrooms" director Kane Parsons says that using AI "defeats the purpose" of filmmaking: “If I could snap my fingers and make generative AI disappear forever, I probably would. @JoshDaws People get fired up because they don’t like fraud, plagiarism, theft, money-grubbing, and presenting generated slop as art. Especially when it’s deceptively and greedily done in the name of “Christianity.”

@seanward All that matters is the art itself, not how it was created. Focusing on process over merit is a very odd priority.

If your purpose in filmmaking is tied to the manual friction of the old tools, then yes, AI defeats it. To him, prompting skips the part of the process that he's interested in. But if your purpose is to get the stories out of your head and build a universe, this tech is the ultimate engine.
