@RetroTechChris Hard drives are usually rated for a non-operating 1ms shock of 150-300Gs, so there’s a chance the drives might still work from the driver dropping them at the door… I’d be more concerned about the sustained shock load of two drives bumping up against each other the whole way.
Oh my. Yea this is not how we ship hard drives. I also ordered one from the seller and he sent me two. UPS also dropped these on my doorstep with a satisfying "thonk". I bet we're cooked here. Will test later. Place your bets below 🤣
I was running low on spare HDDs, so I went on a bit of a buying spree. Honestly, I should have just waited for VCF East in a few weeks, but oh well. 😂. Also, I accept "only the finest" 🤣🤣. Price for each was around ~$20 shipped.
YouTube is a minefield of April Fools videos today… I also released a video today that some might think is a joke, but it’s actually a video I made to help me reassemble my PS2 by playing the disassembly backwards. Maybe it might help you, too. youtu.be/_g1oKG0T6hI
@SheppaDean@RetroTechChris Yes, usually just a small dab of solder on one or both sides, as you don’t want to risk overheating the actual crystal oscillator inside. But the solder is not always needed.
This might just be the strangest sound card design I have ever seen! Guessing they were designing this to be an "angled" PCB, then changed their mind at the last minute 😂
I posted about my PS/2 Model 70 386 not POSTing with certain types of mice attached. As a test, I tried changing a "fast POST" switch (number 4) on the Kingston 486 Now! processor upgrade to see if any improvement. Tried both positions. No luck. Oh well!
Q. What happens when you don't pay close attention and buy the wrong lot of expansion cards on eBay?
A. You get a bunch of modems, and SOME other useful cards 😂
Oh well. Expect to see a testing thread in the next couple of days!
@16bitnostalgia I wonder if that was on purpose, perhaps to identify if you’ve copied content from the ROM. Like a hidden message (like the famous “stolen from Apple” in early Mac ROMs), but in this case a not-too-obvious missing pixel that could be brought up as evidence in court.
@TeamYouTube I’m seeing errors when I try to access YouTube using iOS or Amazon Fire TV. They’re errors that simply say “something went wrong”. Are you having issues, or is this on my end?
@techknight2 I have seen worse (computer just thrown in a box with no padding). I am waiting for someone to try throwing the computer directly into a poly bag… or just slapping the label on the computer, but I don’t think they would accept that.
But that packing would rank in my bottom 10.
Okay, I saw this type of bag for sale on my local Facebook Marketplace... went to eBay and found a similar one, sent a super lowball offer... and now it's on the way. Perfect to wear for all of the VCF events I'll be attending this year! 🎉🎉
