Alright, let's give this another shot! I have way too many things I want to share to disappear here on X. I look forward to the positive interactions... and we'll deal with the negative ones swiftly 😂

If I weren't going to VCF Southeast today in a few hours... I... think... I'd find a way to pick this up

@RetroTechChris I wonder if it would be possible to do this with an President 6313 with a Centronics interface. Wouldn't that be hilarious to run a forty year old printer as a network printer? 😁😁

Yesterday I shared that I had put my Panasonic dot matrix printer on the network. Some people asked "how did you do that"? Well, I put together a tutorial for the interested! Time for a 🧵

@RetroTechChris Do they make any full-size laptops like this? It'd be fun to have a new machine to run all my old programs on...I still have the original disks!

Looks like the Book386 is now a thing! I just ordered one... albeit a little cheaper than this. Can't wait to explore it! Just like Hand386 and Pocket386, it's a 386SX-40, but this has built in Ethernet. We'll see how this goes 😂

@cferrarini Perhaps! I'm not dictating that anyone use a particular solution, I'm just sharing mine.

@usrbinsean Yep, I am aware of those, and I have exactly zero of those lying around. Spare Raspberry Pi devices? I have several!

@RetroTechChris Needs more beige. And an absolute nightmare to get working correctly, from what I remember.

@RetroTechChris @threadreaderapp In the old days (well, not the really old days, but sort of old, like 30 years ago) we just took a "HP JetDirect" to connect a parallel printer to ethernet... (not the plugin for a laserprinter but an actual box with parallel printer port and network)

@pe1chl @timpailthorpe Yep, those are a good solution too, but I didn't have any of those on hand. But I did have a spare raspberry pi in a drawer.

And now for something a little different: I put my Panasonic 24 pin dot matrix printer on the network 😂. We can print from our phones or modern laptop computers to it.
